have you guys ever heard of Rat Dog with Bob. I'm listening to them now. They go around with Bob Weir and they play lots of grateful dead songs. They sound exactly like the grateful dead, only... with a saxaphone, and i think it is great. go check them out.

I like Bob, personally and as a musician, don't get we wrong (see my pix in the GD photo thread), but the Doggie is NOT the Dead.
It isn't meant to be. Mark K has his own chops, def Jerry-scented but his chops and his heart are rooted firmly in the blues and I think it comes across strongly. Bobby leads this project, rather than being part of a control crew.

he participated in writing some of the songs with hunter, barlow and the others but there are only few songs that bobby wrote by himself. if im correct i think he wrote one more saturday night and WRS but those are the only ones i can remember off the top of my head.

I saw Ratdog in early 2004. It was a great show, and I called the opener. (Shakedown street at the electric factory...it makes sense)

very true. but 99% of all Jerry tunes were collaborations with Hunter, Kahn or Grisman....etc....but seeing Weir/Barlow is just like seeing Garcia/Hunter....two very good song writing teams.....but every song off of Weir's ACE is a Grateful Dead classic....

    1. Greatest Story Ever Told (Weir/Hunter)
    2. Black Throated Wind (Weir/Barlow)
    3. Walk In The Sunshine (Weir/Barlow)
    4. Playing In The Band (Weir/Hunter)
    5. Looks Like Rain (Weir/Barlow)
    6. Mexicali Blues (Weir/Barlow)
    7. One More Saturday Night (Weir)
    8. Cassidy (Weir/Barlow)

Rat Dogs good as well as Phil....but its interpretations of G/D songs. The reasons why I say that is because of the drums. Now im not bad mouthin anyone at all, I Love Phil, and Bob, and I Love Live Grateful Dead music but neither of them are backed by the feel that mickey and Bill had. Its great and its diferent...and I like it, and im grateful I get to see bobby and phil, but the closest thing you could get to the G/D is The Dead (with out Warren, he's great but not with the dead.) Bobby,Phil, Mickey, and Bill on the same stage is magic and its beautiful. But yes the Grateful Dead died over ten years ago. THANKS PHIL FOR A WONDERFUL FEB. RUN!!!5 more to go, Peace.

    Ratdog is OK....

I'm not big on sax myself but overall I support Bobby's project.

I liked Ratdog better in their first two years.
