I always like to discover new Hippie/Flower Power bands/songs so I was thinking that I (and perhaps many others) could use a list of bands that others are listening to ... just to know where to dig.

What I would like to propose here would be that anybody who wants to share his favorite hippie/flower power band to post it here. And to make it more entertaining I think that we should also post a short comment on why you like it or why should everybody else listen to that band/artist.

So the place could look something like...

Arlo Guthrie - he's the coolest guy around.
Greatful Dead - the most lighthearted band I've ever heard.
Tom Waits - cause he's crazy and doesn't want to grow up.

That's it I think. Take it easy.

Ozzy (adter his Black Sabbath phase)- A find a cry for peace under the whole "bloodbath" scene.

Death - "The Philosopher" clearly has hippie based ideology.

Iron Maiden - "Throw Your Doughter...To the Slaughter" is in reality a song against the government, the doughter being the government and the slaughter being the revolutionaries.

Pantera - "By Demons be Driven" is actually a song about the Yuppie movement. Jerry Rubin and abbie Hofman are charactarized as "demons", because they went against the "angelic" government.

Sepultura - "Refuse, Resist" is clear social protest.

Shadow Gallery -"War for Sale" is a clear protests against the war which is fought over oil.

    There you go.

Why don't you check out the thread "Psychedelic Rock Essentials"?

I started that thread for the same reason(s) you started this one. ;)

    Well... there's two reasons

.. I get an error when I try to search for threads so I had no idea about your post. I'll check it though.
. I wanted this to be like as general as it gets not just psychedelic rock. And from what BraveSirRubin posted it truly got generous, which is great.
