Does anybody remember Blue Cheer? They had a top 40 hit with "Summertime Blues" in 1968. I saw them in the 80s, great music. They are making a comeback, is should be fun!
Haha, yeah in the toppop quiz you mean? They we're smoking a joint and coughing their lungs out, great little interview. They we're also playing Summertime blues in their studio. Great guys, I love Vincebus Eruptum, one of my fav albums. I don't like the song Summertime blues very much though.
Blue Cheer was one of those bands that you had to see live and experience them, I saw them get booted off stage in 69' at the Whiskey A-Go-Go for playing too damn loud. I spoke with Dickie Peterson a few years ago from germany where he was living with his wife and he was playing with a new lineup there doing the old stuff as they the germans don't forget like we do how good the Blue Cheer sound was. He said that the europeans appreciate the old bands and the crowd is much more reponsive than here. Original guitarist Leigh Stephens has not been with Cheer for some years now and has changed his whole style of playing, as Dickie said of the old members at the time. Paul Whaley I don't know where the hell he is and Leigh, shit what the F--K happened to him, playing country music now? Whats he thinking.. It would be nice to have them record one more as an original band again but who knows, Leigh has his own web site where he sells his cd's and Paul the drummer is hard to track down but Dickie is still out there as Blue Cheer. 'Outside Inside' is a most impressive lp and one to get if you don't already have it. Peace In Music..
Dickie is back in northern California since last year. Not sure where Whaley is, Europe I think, he may have legal problems. Stephens quit the band in 69 and had not played with them until last year at the Chetfest. Dickie did some recording a few months back but I don't know when he plans on releasing anything. I should be seeing him this weekend so I'll ask about it. Later, Hip
i've only heard a little bit of their album "Vincebus Eruptum", but they sound really good. i do enjoy their version of "summertime blues"
I don't "remember" them , but I like them a lot. Vincebus Eruptum is awesome; one of the best rock albums of the '60s, no doubt!
