I just thought id share my love for this buddha of music. I always come ack to him and luve to listen to his albums (got 'em all) and although i wish he was still writing and singing i have to repect him for his conversion and hes done better than most stars who rot away with their money.

The guy writes some awesome stuff and doesent seem to be mentioned alot on here depite him being a quitissential hippy.

Anyone got any stories seen him live etc) or please write good things hear to show you care!

cat stevens is awesome. i've always liked him, but i dont know, i never associated him with the hippie scene. Now that I think about it, he is definitely a hippie.

Yeah, I've been listening to Cat Stevens since I was like 8. My mom is real big into him. I would definetely associate him with hippies. If you read his lyrics he sings about a equality of people all over the world. He sings about opening your mind and sharing your love. One of the greatest songwriters ever man! I can play a few songs on my guitar actually by Mr. Stevens.

i think all of cat stevens songs are really easy to play on the guitar.. most of them have a lot of common chords don't they? i am not good at playing notes, exspecially really fast notes..

speaking of cat stevens, this song that i love came on the radio, and i asked my mom who it did it, she said she thinks its cat stevens, but shes not sure. anyway i thought id ask the big fans. the lyrics go something like:

the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
little boy blue and the man on the moon

That was originally written by Harry Chapin, but Guns N' Roses did a cover of it. I'm not sure who's version you'd be hearing.

Ha, was that deliberate? I think you mean "this Imam of music" - he converted to Islam in 1977 and changed his name to Yusuf Islam...

Cat Stevens is a great great singer songwriter, I would actually put him up there with Harry Chapin and Don Mcclean, he wrote with such passion and could sing with his soul he is amazing. My favorite song by him would have to be Father and Son. the video is awsome too so plain but so real.

He has long hair, so therefor he is a hippy. When did you guys miss the stereotype?

    Long hair= Hippy

Ok, maybe theres more to it, especially in my opinion. Like you want everybody to love each other and the world to have peace and your probably an enviomentalist who expands your mind through psycadelics.

My dad brought me up listening to Cat Stevens, the guy rocks. He also used to play it on guitar while I sang, although aged 8 singing Lady D'arbanville did really upset me!

Majikat i just purchased today. I really love the ...colourfulness of it lol! Its all about peace train on that one. At the end of the day try saying a guy with a hippy audience singing about peace with a flower in his mic stand (and long hair!) isnt a hippy!
