There is no differnce between a psychotic state defined by delusions, and distorted perceptions of reality and most religions. The only differnece is psychosis is usually in an individual and religion is usually in groups. If by what is called "faith" and "belief" are simply unprovable ideas there is no distinction in that of a schizophrenic that has unprovable ideas but they are classified as mentally ill. Religious creeds encourage some of the craziest kinds of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and favor severe manifestations of neurosis, borderline personality states, and sometimes even psychosis. - Albert Ellis Religion can never reform mankind because religion is slavery. --Robert Ingersoll Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it with religious conviction. -- Blaise Pascal Of all bad men religious bad men are the worst. --C.S. Lewis The more I study religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself. --Richard Burton Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned. --Unknown If it weren't for Christians, I'd be a Christian.-- Mahatma Ghandi For however devoted you are to (God), you may be sure that he is immeasurably more devoted to you. --Meister Eckhart
Yes, religion IMO is nothing but sanctioned-brainwashing. The abstraction of a god should not be forcibly spoonfed down juvenile's throats. If they want to find god or attend a worship service, it's not hard to find.
Lol.. thanks for the imput of information... Ill cook up a nice statement for school, and start a decision to waste a classrooms time
I think they might have actually proved that with the whole "god spot" in the brain. correct me if im wrong though...
no one can really prove if god exists or not, btu one thing for sure is that no one religon is correct, so why bother wasting ur time believing in any of it? its brainwash. as said above, religion is just another way to cause violence and seperation between people. would people still believe in god if they werent braught up around all the "god bless america" and other suhc bullshit?
religion is just a belief, no different to the aboriginees beliving in the "sun gods" and whatever other weird shit they belive in... to the person beliving its real... to everyone else, its bullshit... obviosly. the episode of the Simpsons, where they alll become brainwashed by the religion exept Marge.. they got it spot on... the psychology of beleivgin in somthing is a hard process to put into words... however i see it in my brain like a picture, i see everthing on a larger scale... there is no good, there is no evil. if Earth blew up today, it would mean nothing, to anything. im trying to get "believers" to understand that i view them as silly as they themselves view the aborigineess worshipping the sun, and the lizards and whatever... dont laugh, cause you christians have the same silly insane, supernatural beliefs... at least the aboriginess worship things they see. you tell yourselves you belive it. but the fact is, if it came on tv that Jesus had returned or somone saw an angel or some other supernatural crap you belive in came on tv,, YOU WOULDNT BELIEVE IT!!!!
nothing like psychosis, but similar to some elements of schizoid tendancies. but not teh same. or a form, no way. religion is merely a system of function and decision. religion answers the questions, not just teh conscious ones, but moreso the unconscious ones. if the religion fills as many gaps in someones life, be it to make them feel worthy, to cheer them up, to answer their moral dilemas, to judge people around them, to ponder the beauty of the universe, to give them hope, any of that stuff. religion merely 'slots in' to our minds and fills all these gaps, removing the discomfort and threat involved. once a belief is ingrained with emotional experiences, the brain tends to try its hardest to change the belief. but the experiences of belief in religion concern sense, logic, integrity, perception, of actual stimuli fromthe world. psychosis involves deriving these from imagined events. religion could result in psychosis, who knows, but religion is definately not a -form- of psychosis, because everyone has a religion whether they know it or not, some people just derive the steps of their religion from books, others derive them from their personal experiences, none more 'real' than the other, in the end
Not so fast. Psychosis ingeniously exploits our patterns of cognition such as function and decision systems. Psychosis does not indicate cognitive stupidity. Rather, psychosis indicates a clever subversion of our cognitive function to effectively hide, often behind the drappery of religion, our real survival and reproductive motives from our social competitors. Indeed, in competitive primate social herarchies, the most successful psychosis is that which most successfully exploits our cognitive functions. In dangerous hyper-competitive environments, such as the primate sexual hierarchy we call Civilization, our motives become increasingly preoccupied with our sexual-reproduction and our genetic survival. These motives must remain hidden from our competitors through the effective Ego strategy of deception. Psychosis is an effective response to the survival and reproductive reality of our dangerous and hyper-competitive hierarchical civilization. Unfortunately, our Ego must first deceive ourselves in its web of psychotic delusions and denials before it can successfully deceive our competitors in the primate social hierarchy of survival and reproduction. Religion, more than answering questions, actually enables us to deceptively fulfill our hidden reproductive and survival motivations while keeping their true nature hidden behind the psychotic drappery of religion. For example men, who have been continuously conquered and enslaved like the Hebrews, will fabricate a patriarchal religion where their enslaved fears of their own male sexual inadequacy are conveniently reduced by repressing and effectively controlling their women's sexuality. These motives are repressed from our conscious mind and are camouflaged deep within our hidden unconscious. There they fester into neurotic preoccupations which constantly bubble to the surface seeking release through stealthy and hidden indirect means. Thus Civilized Man fabricates a religion through a clever cognitive web of psychotic delusions and denials, to serve this neurotic function of releasing our hidden motivations.
m6m That pretty much fits with occams life experience of people who wear a 'psychotic drapery of religion' prominently in their daily lives. However occam does not think that all who say they are religious, actually are. Many are paying lip service to a early conditioning they have mostly left behind during process to adulthood in our competative western social/sexual society. [one based on comercial power, not religious] Occam thinks fully half of those who claim a religion based on this lip service would, if forced to seriously sit down and argue it out. End up admitting that they did not think their religion really speaks for god. But for itself. Occam
I guess the masses need something to cling onto in the absence of anything better. depends on what interpretation you want to give it, say, on coming down after a big acid trip or spiritual experience. maybe what is needed is a new psychopathic religion. something with a little more humor.
The believe or faith in god is so unnescecarry(sp?) i mean if were suposedly born with a conviction of good and evil, right and wrong, then why do we need some sort of higher power to make us excercise that so called "moral code"? I mean don't get me wrong the teachings of people like buddha, jesus christ, muhommed, or any other "prophet" are great, and good advise but we shouldn't live out of fear of hellfire, i mean that literal belief of religion is the cause for all the problems anyway. Just think, what makes jesus so special because he was crucified? many others were too, because the romans were trying to control the people, with narrow minded RELEGION. And he came to set them free. Its all bullshit. There might be a god of some sorts, but none of us know it or he or she or whatever god is for sure until we die. So take your time on earth and charish it, its the only one you've got.
well it isn't that nontangable beings (supposing of course that they exist, which both my gut and my personal experiences tend to tell me they do) aren't good friends to have, just like tangable ones are, it's just that the connection between priorities and probabilities has a whole heck of a lot more to do with what we actualy experience. =^^= .../\...
Christanity is an example big time, in the old testament, people put so much faith in god, they would even go to the depths of sacrificing their first born son for him(abraham), then when jesus came around(i dont believe in him, but for the sake of conversation) they crucified, i think the new testemant is just trying to clean up the mess of the old testement. They had it so pushed into their subconscious god loved them, and jesus was just an escape goat really. God cannot be dead because he was never alive, and to die you have to be alive.
Religion is just a set of beliefs that has been accepted by convention. It has its place in this world. I just don't choose to accept the conventions that make up religion, nor do I believe in God or any higher power. Karl Marx called religion the opiate of the people, but Karl Marx was some dumb ass hippy, wasn't he! LOL
What is sanity? Make a positive statement, or recognize your intellectual dependence on that which you intend to negate. Peace and Love
Sanity. Is the abillity to FIT in the current social framework. To function, independently, withing tis thing we have made. Western society. In the 60's and 70's. so many 'hung' at the very limmits of accepted sanity. That the limmits were pushed back FAR beyond the sane. If there is such a thing. Thus you are quite sane if you believe crystals give you biometric power. Or pyramids. That jesus was an alien Now. ANYTHING is sane. AS LONG AS You are passive and function in society. All is belief, and little is of any rational worth. 99.5% of everything people believe is crap. Occam
