why did the government make pot illegal?

the story i heard (and had been propigating) is that dupont developed nylon ropes and didnt want hemp as a competition, so they bribed legislation and played off their fear of the reefer smoking black jazz musicians to make it illegal.

if im wrong, point me in the right direction. if im right, could you mayhaps give me some sources? im working on deprogramming one of those "POT IS CANCER!" type folks... i made some good progress today though, but yeah, they want info on WHY its illegal.

I believe the original illegalization of marijuana was in Texas. Many of the Mexican immigrants were smoking marijuana. Many of the racist rednecks in Texas didn't like the Mexicans, so they thought, "if we make marijuana illegal, we can get rid of the Mexicans" (because they were the only ones smoking it at the time).

An actual quote from one of the first cases for the illegalization of marijuana:
"All mexicans are crazy, and marijuana is what makes them crazy."

And because of some stupid racist rednecks, I can't come home after a long day of work and smoke a joint without worrying about someone smelling it and ratting me out.

basically, big corporate executives would have lost alot of money if cannabis remained legal and make a ton more money now that its been illegal

 

I believe the reason it is illegal is because of many things but two mainly:

1. Racism is one of them. They blamed the latinos on raping white women under the influence of pot in an effort to get rid of the mexicans in Texas.

2. Economics. They figure since it is a plant they can't make money off it if its legal because its natural. Alcohol is a littler harder to produce yourself and same goes for tobacco. Tobacco requires large fields and one pack of cigarettes is quite a few plants. Cannabis grows like a weed too. If they legalized it people would say forget buying from the govt, its a plant so they would grow there own.

The cotton farmers helped to get it illegal because they feared there own business couldnt compete with hemp.

Hemp can be used for fuel, fiber, food(seeds are nutritious), and medicine(marijuana) yet its
illegal.


To make any plant illegal is completely absurd whether it is betel palm,khat, opium, cannabis, coca, kratom, peyote,kava kava, iboga,..etc

Plants arnt bad it is evil people including fda and police which are bad. They dont see the distinction between a medicinal plant and stupid man made shit like METH.

Fda man made pills as well as meth kill alot more people than any of the above plants i listed.

Not only do the homosexuals go to Canada to get away from the closeminded thinking of Americans, but so do the Potheads and alot of people.

In Canada you feel alot more free than you would if you are in the USA

 

I typed a huge response, but then I realized that most of it has already been stated. All of the earlier posts are great.

 

"marijuana" was a mexican word introduced to the americans in order to add to the fear and fuel the propaganda by harry Anslinger, who was head DEA at the time (theDEA equivalent, there was no "DEA"). americans associated mexicans with bad stuff...
before that it was always known as "hemp." unfortunately not many people knew that hemp was the same thing as marijuana, so when they made it illegal in 1937, the hemp industry, which was threatening the plastics and timber, etc industries, was destroyed. oops.

harry Anslinger was a racist fuck with an agenda. the whole process was rooted in racism, lies, and prejudice. anslinger didn't like the philipino jazz artists. he didn't like the mexicans. he called these people niggers and told the public that they were satanic people corrupting america.

it was all about money.

now, hopefully, we can undo this damage and try to save the planet through wide-scale industrial hemp use. it's the number one biomass producing plant in the world and may be one of our only hopes to save the earth, especially if we keep killing ourselves at the current rate...
