Hi I was wondering if anyone in here belongs to such a thing. Im a programmer thinking about creating such a site, or atleast a site with such a subsection, and I want to do a little research into the field, and I figured what better way to do it then ask those who use them. First of all, Id like to know what site(s) it is that you use What is your purpose for using these sites? At what level do you create art?(professionally, something for a little income on the side, purely as a hobby) thanks for your time
Try www.deviantart.com . One of the biggest online art communities on the net, it's a place where you can post your work, download resources for your work (including tutorials, digital aides for digital art etc.) and build friendships. I am a novice traditional and digital artist. Being a student, at the moment, I am just refining my skills. I am looking into a career in graphic design, although.
i'm going to agree with meggie. it would be nice to have other online communities though. i'm almost professional. at least i keep telling myself that. only 2 more years til i get a degree.
did you check www.ratemyart.com? Ive already got an idea for a site, I just want to know if it would be worth creating I have heard of deviantart, though never used it. I dont think I will gain much insite into how the website works by just browsing through it, Id rather speak with those who use it. Do any of you use this site, or others, and if so would you mind keeping in contact with me answering various questions about what you like about the sites you use, what you dislike etc (once i put together a list of questions)
I keep selling my work on E-bay uk,but don't get much for it - so either I'm crap at it or I undersell myself.Haven't tried any of these online sites so I'm interested anyway.I quite like the idea of artwork being printed on other media, and distributed.
I used deviantart.com it's a really nice site. You can browse other people's work and post your own work for free, leave comments, critique, etc. I'm still in high school, so I just do art at home and in my art class at school. Yup
im a pro photographer and designer, one of the sites we run is art online, its a site by artist for artists to get seen more and to comunicate.we just added a blog section.we allso fetchur a new artist evry month or so.heres the link check it out. http://artonline.scgrahamfoto.com/ email us if you wanna participate,,sunshine all arround woodenfrog
Are you including communities that are message-board based? I like http://users.boardnation.com/~artboard
So MiGu, you wish to know what we'd want for a site? Free with a support option (like this place) would rock for many folks. A way to pay w/o plastic would also be nice (I have wrecked credit and swore off plastic, but I NEED to get the art out there) A simple gallery template, maybe a choice of several backgrounds that would not clash with the art. Search engine recognition (possibly a function of supporter status to have meta tags, etc) quick loading but still OK quality pix that cannot be copied out of the site. or a copyright stamp in the code. A section of links to copyright law, artist associations, galleries seeking emerging artists, schools etc (think income options here) supporters get fewer ads on screen. divisible into media for searching. I've only glanced at Deviant, but my gut says mySpace for doodlers. Still, I may form a page yet. Was this helpful at all?
design-wise, Deviantart is ugly and clumbersome - espiecially if you're just posting text. A good website should accomodate visual as well as literary art, but still look nice. It's all down to who your site attracts really. A community is only as good as it's members.
Nervousness.org is an awesome forum for swapping art through the mail. it uses the same forum interface as here too.
