Yeah, its weird...i mean personally i think its stupid to buy like a shirt with a name brand on it that cost like 50 bucks or whatever. And sometimes i see people with like abercromie or fubu, etc and i think 'how dumb' and i sorta think they're kind of dumb for buying the clothes that they wear just to wear name brands or whatever the reason. But sometimes i talk to them and they turn out pretty nice, and then i think 'well its JUST clothes' and they probably only buy it because they can afford it and because they want to look nice or something or that they are trying to dress a patricular way, because they want people to 'sterotype' them as prep, punk, or whatever elce lil 'sterotypes' there are. i just dress how i want and it doesnt matter where i shop at. but some people look at you weird or say rude things just because of the clothes you wear aren't like theirs, and thats so dumb. i mean alot of people stero type people on what clothes they wear, its kind of hard not to sometiems because its one of the first things you notice about someone. kinda sad, but i guess thats what happens sometimes. i probably could say more buttt.. im being distracted by fresh prince of belair!

My family is well off...not rich but well off, does that mean I can't shop at the thrift store!!!??? I'm not a prep by any means... i wear my patchwork and tye dyes and whatever else I like! But does that mean that how my family is doing econimically should dictate where I can shop? I just get confused when people make comments like that.

    A GENERAL COMMENT:
And by the way I know most of you out there don't want to be judged by the way you look & have labels put upon you....do onto others as you would want done to u!!! Tolerance is the key to humanity..and yes that goes for the preps as well!

I really like your general comment because that is how I truly feel. I grew up with my grandma caterogizing, (sp?) everyone that lived and breathed. My parents were worried that I would end up the same way. So once she died, (when I was old enough to realize what she was saying,) I commited myself to being non-violent and not judging. I think your post was a good post. Thank you.

Dustystar and Mjoda said everything I wanted to say when reading this post. Do not judge people just b/c they wear Abercrombie just like you don't want people judging you b/c you wear "hippie stuff". Who cares if a magazine says "hippie chic" or whatever. That's what they call it, that could be a style. People can shop wherever they want...who cares how much money they make or what kind of clothes they happen to be wearing the day that you see them. Clothing is just another way to express yourself. Wear what you want to wear b/c you want to. Who cares.

Yes don't judge someone by what they wear. But what I ,as a person, see a lot in my town, is most peopel who did it because fashion magazines and televison say it's cool to do it. The thift shop thing went big a few years ago. Remember shabby chic? you know people saying how cool it was to shop at the thift store, followed by expensive accessories.
No one said you had to be dirt poor to shop in a thift store. But like if you're only shopping in there because the magazine says it the cool thing ot do this year, that is what confuses me.
I don't know. Where I live, it isn't cool to shop at the thift store, so maybe it's different here. I shop at the thift store. Been shoppign therie for all my clothes for over 20 years.

they're just clothes, they're not uniforms. when only one particular group within a society gets to wear them, they become uniforms, not expressions of personal style. you don't want that to happen, do you?

Last year I when I was at my friends house her mom said, You always look very bohemian." I was like, That's a compliment right." She said, Oh, yes.' I had never heard the word, so I came home and looked it up. This is what it really means...Main Entry: Bo·he·mi·an
    Pronunciation:
    -mE-&n
    Function: noun
    Date: 1603
1 a : a native or inhabitant of Bohemia b : the group of Czech dialects used in Bohemia
2 : often not capitalized a : VAGABOND, WANDERER; especially : GYPSY b : a person (as a writer or an artist) living an unconventional life usually in a colony with others

Makes perfect sense, because I'm unconventional, and artistic...hehe.

see? i guess I could be described as free and easy but i don't want to be caterogized so I'm not even gonna try! I do do art, but that's out of passion.
