I was looking at a Suzuki Sierra and thought that a similar body cab could be built out of plywood MDF.What do you think?
cars are made of lightweight metals/ fiberglass for good reason:gas milage. a wood body would overwork the engine and upo the fuel consumtion plus its trees. Aren't we lopping down enough trees for your tastes?
It would catch fire wouldn't it? I'm not sure I'd want my engine under a bit of mdf. Besides MDF throws up a lot of dust at the best of times nevermind making it mobile
Well the brits built one of their "work horse" bombers The Mosquito in WWII out of plywood......but as far as a vehicle body.....it really wouldn't be a cost effective idea .....the new space age carbon fibers and light weight materials are more fuel efficient than plywood would ever be....not to mention there is already a shortage on lumber
Take a sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle. On one side list the positive benefits, on the other, the negative benefits. The reasons why they don't use MDF for car bodies will soon be clear to you.
Why would you fabricate a new one, if you already have one? And if you wreck one, its not that hard to transfer parts
While the idea of a car made of wood sounds like a cool idea, it would be more practical for you to simply purchase a used car as the car company doesnt see that money and all you want is a way to shove it to the corporations.
