hi yall, Tracy here... on my way with this weight loss thing but really having problems with cravings. I am not really a junk food fiend.I just enjoy salty, crunchy things like chips and sugary snacks too. Does anyone know any healthy alternatives to chips, cupcakes, and such? Let me know. Thanks Tracy
Well if I'm wanting something sweet, I usually grab a piece of fruit. That's my number one favourite snack. But I also don't mind popcorn once in a while with a little cinnamon and touch of honey drizzled over it. For salty snacks, well... Ahah.. I'm kinda hooked on those Breton crackers.. You can get tons of little crisp/cracker things at the grocery store that are low fat and sodium. And veggies and dip are great too. I like hummus a lot, and its pretty good for you too. Celery with peanut butter, or any veggie with a good healthy dip. After a while, when you start eating that kinda food regularly, I dunno.. For me personally, I don't really crave the fattening things anymore. Anyhow, good luck.
Things I like having around as snacks -Plain Roasted Soynuts (sometimes I put a little bit of cajun spice on them) -Slices of Apple -Grapefruit -vegan low cal, low fat homemade muffins I think the trick with snacks is to prepare them yourself, because with premade store bought snacks you're less likely to say "wow, theres a lot of butter in this, maybe I should cut back."
Yes! I keep little containers of ready-to-eat snacks in the fridge that are good for me, so I don't automatically go for the cookies that are sitting in front of me.. ahha. Ughhhhh. Roasted soynuts. I could not live without them. With those slices of apple.. My new thing is.. ahah.. I like cutting them up into chunks and sprinkling a few raisins, some cinnamon and a touch of honey over them.. Like a little salad. It tastes very similar to apple pie.
thanks for the great ideas guys. Any ideas for snacks that are either quick or I can premake. let me know! Tracy
Do you eat gelatin? Because the fat free Jello is actually quite good. It's 10 calories, it's easy to make and it tastes like candy. It's really helping me with my dieting- it's made these first few weeks a lot easier. I personally like the Hanniford store brand version (listed as "Gelatin Dessert", because Jello is a brand name)- it's sweeter and cheaper- but the regular version is good, too.
I keep batches of homemade hummus in the freezer and 1 contrainer always in the fridge and a large tupperware of prepared veggies. These are washed and cut up pieces of your favs. Mine are grape tomatoes, baby carrots, califlower, radishes. This way a quick snake is always onhand. I already documented much of the hummus recipes online. PM me for the recipes if u want.
Almonds are really good for you. They are high in fiber. They are also high in fat, but it's the good kind of fat, so you don't have to worry as much. I took a women's health and a nutrition class, and both professors overemphasized the almonds.. I just get the canned kind. You do have to watch out for the ones that are really salty though!
-popcorn, air popped is better than yo think with seasoning or whatever - apples. just bite in. - slices of turkey . - egg whites -baby carrots - strawberries mmmm or just throw back a water or diet soda if your not really hungry, just 'craving' something. i know, easier said than done. good luck!
