So, I am just starting my 4th month. I am bigger than most people I see at 16 weeks, but am not really stressing about it. I haven't gained a pound thus far, although my body has completely changed.

I have noticed that my skin has gotten really itchy on my belly these past couple of weeks. I am thinking this is an advanced warning of soon to appear stretch marks. My question to all of you:

What did all of you ladies use on your stretch marks? Both for prevention and treatment?

    thanks for any advice!

I'm a guy, and I don't have any advice for you, but hopefully my little tale will let you know that you are not alone.

My GF has very visible stretch marks on her breasts. She tells me that she developed her D-cups (almost) overnight in 5th grade, and that caused the stretch marks. I can see the marks clearly, but they do not bother me at all.

I hope your pregnancy goes well. Congratulations on your new kid. :)

Well, you don't have to be pregnant to get stretch marks. I have stretch marks because I'm overweight. Or do men not get them when they're overweight, either?

whether you get stretch marks or not is determined genetically. There is nothing you can do about it. You can help them fade, rubbing any sort of oil helps, many think it is the rubbing more than the oil that makes the difference. I found that using the same lanolin for my nipples helped tremendously with my scars from abdominal surgeries and the stretch marks that radiated from those scars. Vitamin E oil, cocoa butter, olive oil, these are all good things, as long as you don't use mineral oil or commercial products preserved with parabens.

I was just going to say what mamaboogie said. Some people have skin which stretches without marking and others don't. I don't get stretch marks, I'm lucky (OK, I have a few on my hips, but I never got any on my belly and I get BIG when I am pregnant.)

My dh had these awful stretch marks on his back when he was younger, he shot up over a foot in just a few months when he was about 13 or 14 and it stretched the tissue on his back. His mother didn't want him to go with no shirt because she said, "People will think I beat him." LOL! They have faded and you can see very little of them now, though. But, his growth spurt was more than 30 years ago.

thanks for the advice everyone. I will try both vitamin E and cocoa butter.

My mom doesn't have stretch marks. I know that I will get them, as I already have some on my breasts (like Thor's GF, i grew from an A to a D cup in a very short period of time).

I am going to the drug store today (need more prenatal vitamins) so I will try and find some of both items mentioned.

I'm just about the most succeptable person to stretch marks ever, I think.

I got them on my breasts because I too grew pretty quickly (although only to a C cup) and later on my hips. I also have a LOT on my arms and a few on my inner thighs because when I went through puberty, I developed hypothyroid disorder and gained a lot of weight.

Also, is it normal for skin injuries to cause stretch marks? I burned a 3 inch scar into my stomach when I bumped my tummy against a hot cookie sheet and within 2 weeks I had stretch marks all around there without gaining any weight (maybe from the swelling?). Ugh... I haaaaaate them.

I have stretch marks on my hips and a few on my boobs. They're not the big, reddish colored ones. They look like cut scars....my boyfriend asked me if I was cut real bad when he first saw them :p. My mother got them when she was pregnant on her belly and her boobs....she didn't lube her tummy or breasts up, though.
I've heard cocoa butter daily. Plus, someone told me once that if you cover 'problem' areas in a thick coating of baby oil and take a nice steamy shower that will help hydrate the skin. I do it once a week and I hardly get dry skin. Maybe try that....

i douced my belly in baby oil and coca butter when i was pregnant. my stretch marks were AWFUL. Still are. But there were days that i didn't put the coca butter on in the morning AND at night, so that may have something to do with it.
If i keep putting the coca butter on now, will that still help them fade more?
I like what my doctor said, though. I was complaining about them and he said that they were beauty marks:)
