Do you feel flying a sighn is better than spangeing or maby the other way around? do you think it is wrong to panhandle or is it just somthing some people have to do who dont want to work? working sucks panhandlein is fun i think and it makes people happy to give away money to the needey. i know it has gotten me acrost the country a couple of times. but right now i am working to save up to buy a buss . spangeing can get annoying thats why i would rather fly a sighn.

People do like giving money to people who are truly in need.. you, sir, are not in any kind of need. If you 'need' the money, how do you have a computer? And this b.s. about panhandling because it's "more fun" than working? You're dishonest. That's not a respectable thing to do. If you want money so badly, earn it yourself.

It's so easy to panhandle, it's ridiculous. I made sixty bucks in like three hours the one and only time I did it...more as an experiment than anything else.

From then on, I have never given money to a panhandler...give a man a fish he eats for a day, teach a man to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime.

In Vancouver, Panhandling has gotten so competetitive its become awesome. They (all the longtime addict bums) have weird tricks to garner coins. One guy does fifty one thumbed pushups for five bucks (he's methed out to shit, tho), another climbs trees... The keyboard player who doesn't play songs, just random notes, except he has no hands just stumps.

I honestly believe there are too many variables to make a cut-and-dried response. I have worked in downtown areas of major metropolitan American cities. Trust me when I say you don't want some of the panhandlers to be within your BREATHING space at times.

When I lived in NYC there were times when people would walk right up to the stopped car (at a red light). Sometimes they would squirt the windshield with ammonia water and then wipe it with a dirty rag. This often times made the window dirtier than when it started. Some of these people pulled up the windshield wipers if they weren't compensated.
At times beggers have made me way too uncomfortable... like begging at a gas pump or at an ATM.
In San Francisco some of the beggars performed... music, mimes, dance, art. In the Tenderloin they were often on the sidewalk, dirty, and in need of a fix of some substance. On Haight Street I had seen many very young people with babies, multiply pierced or tattoo'ed. Maybe they should have opted to use the tatt money for formula instead.
I have absolutely no problem looking these people square in the eye and saying, "Sorry! I don't support your lifestyle. If you're hungry, go to a food shelter."
In Los Angeles I remember giving to one beggar. I had seen him a number of times begging with his dog. He was actually quite handsome. I approached him and gave him a $5 bill along with a box of dog biscuits, a wash cloth and a bar of oatmeal soap. I don't think he was too appreciative of anything other than the cash. I'd see him regularly, but I knew that that was a one-shot deal.
As a rule I would say NO to street beggars. There are places to go to for food and places to receive temporary shelter. Wash up, find a job, learn a trade or get into a government assistance program.

There's one guy downtown here who only has one hand and plays guitar. He's pretty good too :)

People who are truely in need,I don't mind giving but people like you who don't want to work so you you can sit on your ass and get high, noway.I have no compassion for bums who are too lazy to work. Most of us don't like to work but we have to if we want to eat, etc.
