What a waste of $4 and 2 hours. One of the worst movies I've ever sat through. I do NOT recommend it.
I wouldn't say that it's the WORST movie I've ever sat through (in the theater, I think Elektra holds that record for me, and Gigli still wins worst movie ever, but I saw that for free on cable), but it's pretty bad. The wost part was when Julianne Moore went off over-acting that endless monologue towards the end of the film. I don't think "camp" even begins to describe the incredibly bad job Moore does with her role. I suppose the problem could be that Joe Roth directed. He has produced a few decent films (but way more lame ones), but he has only directed four films, and the last two before this one were America's Sweethearts and Christmas with the Kranks. Anyway, this movie really wanted to be about something, but it was just muddy, convoluted and lame.
yah, not the worst, hence my saying one of... ( i saw darkness in theatres 2 christmases ago). i agree, moore was a horrible choice for that role. not only that, but i think the character wasn't believable regardless of who played her. woulda made more sense as a distraught grieving mother but they tried to make her psycho on top of it. this movie could have been something. something tells me the original idea had potential...but they ran that into the ground.
You know, the only reason I went to see it was because I saw the preview, and I wanted to know what the movie was really about because the preview hinted that it could be about one of a number of things. Turns out, it tried (and failed) to be about all of them. VERY disappointing.
