With the return of warm weather to Ohio, I'm looking forward to again going barefoot. In particular I'm looking forward to trying a barefoot trip to South Bass Island/Put-in-Bay and/or Makinac Island. Has anyone been on a barefoot excursion to any of these locations? Any problems with the ferries or the businesses on the islands? Chad
Ahh Put-in-Bay, how I loved that island! When my wife and I lived in Ohio we would visit there often, such a really nice place and a fine place for barefooting I might add. It's no doubt that you are probably climbing the walls at this point, talk about cabin fever! When it came to riding the ferries, we always used Miller Boat Line, they run about two trips per hour and it only takes about 20 minutes to get to the island. I'm not sure about their footwear requirement, but I always wore flip flops when boarding and unloading but took them off once in my seat. I would suggest wearing at least flip flops just in case, as they are rather safety conscious. Once on the island I would usually go barefoot but when driving a golf cart or visiting one of the shops I would put on my flip flops to avoid any hassle. It's kind of sad due to the fact that I only remember seeing one or two other barefooters outside any of the swimming areas. You would think that there would be more barefooting in a small area surrounded by water. Go figure. Be sure to check out the area by the Perry's Monument, a large grassy area that is perfect for barefooting! Other than the drunks that frequent the island during the weekends it's a really nice laid back atmosphere. However I feel that the Jet Express, the other ferry only adds to the wild party atmosphere that my wife and I would rather avoid. Been there, done that. Both of us are planning a brief visit to Ohio over the Memorial Day weekend this year, with the two target places being Cedar Point and Put-in-Bay. I cant' wait!
Yes, I've walked barefoot around Cedar Point outside of the waterparks and water rides. However, they won't let you go on rides barefoot except for the Raptor which spins you around with your feet dangling in the air and of course the wet rides outside of Soak City.
Thanks for the good info. Anyone know of any amusement parks where you can get on pretty much any ride barefoot? Chad
I'm not much of a barefooter - at least not yet - unless its accompanied by total nudity. But I will say I've hiked South Manitou Island in Lake Michigan, both nude and without shoes, and it was great. I highly recommend that.
Thanks for the input. I'm not familiar with that particular island, but will certainly look into it. Chad
I don't think I'd go barefoot on amusement park rides...I have no reason other than it might not be safe...I don't know...getting a toe stuck in some kind of convayor belt or something..I don't know. Mackinac Island is pretty barefoot friendly...I've done that once or twice. Take a bicycle around the island...it's great
Ive been barefoot at amusement parks, I do it all the time, will be going to the county fair in a few weeks, barefoot.
