Apparently, some christian fundamentalists believe that the apocalypse is to come in approximately 40 years, therefore finding no need to care for the environment.

what goofydrummer said is true, there are some people who believe this. But this is not the majority of Christians.

I think caring about the environment has nothing to do with religious or cultural beliefs. It is an individual choice and concern.

Wouldn't it be nice to just not give a shit?

Yeah most christians dont give a rat's ass about the environment. It isnt sacred, its just something we are in control of and have dominion over.

    Which is bullshit.

Without the environment there would be no Christianity...

i have been a lot in thailand, a buddhist country, and it's exactly as we think it is. It actually quite common to eat meat among monks! and they are quite authoritian. I heard about this special monastery wanting to have an ecological farm without pesticides, and the buddhist orgonisation didn't back them up, they shut them out out their community....
RELIGION is NOT the answer, because religion is often very conservative..........
Religion says: "follow the book"!!!!! We need to think for ourselves, and actullly not get braon washed. Religion is like a POSITIVE BRAINWASH= it's about FAITH, not LOGIC, and we have been spending so many centuries just BELIEVING!!!! And in the end, we just beleive anything, and we get blind.... The system wants us BLIND!!!!!!!!!! Don't you see? Religion is the perfect tool to train our mind to beleive, trust, accept....
NOW, we have come to a point where we have to say NO!!!!!!!!!! No to the system, who is addicted to our consumtion, and we need to say NO to our own filthy consumtion. Spiriltuality has nothing to do with religion. Religion can be good for people who are like children, who need to be kept in the dark for their own best.... Spirituality (whichever kind you like) is for real

religion or relegere(to re-tie) can be important in the enviromental movement. in fact, the enviromental movement is a religion in that people are coming together with shared beliefs in the value of protecting the ecosystem. The strength of enviromentalists convictions attests to the spiritual nature of their beliefs.

trouble is most religions are anthropocentric. what we need now is a religion that puts nature first. the tao does this
