My favorite new band. I think Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is the best cd that has come out in my entier life, I would never debate anyone on it just a personal oppion. That cd deals with issues like growing up, being a man, life and death, and a heavy dose of tripping. Its just great stuff. I also downloaded their new cd coming out in April. Its very political and pretty differnt from their last 2 cd's. Anyway just made this topic since there arn't any others about the Flaming Lips, comments?

The Flips are pretty amazing. Cant go wrong with crazy chilled out, profound, experimental, psychedelic, melodic pseudo rock. Even their wacked out, noisy, punk roots are great. Have you seen the fearless freaks? Wayne Coyne is an Incredible dude.
I went through a phase about a year ago where they were all I listened to. They are would be up there in my top 5. Clouds Taste Metallis and Soft Bulletin are what I'm partial too. Had one of the greatest acid trips while Clouds Taste Metallic was on repeat for about 5 hours, at full volume!
    *sigh* Happy memories.

The Flaming Lips are pretty good, but they put out so much garbage it's unbelievable. They have gotten their act together within the past 5 years or so.

gosh, i love them, they are probably my second favourite band after of montreal.

yoshimi battles the pink robots is definitely my favourite album of their's, you can hear new songs of their's on their myspace (www.myspace.com/theflaminglips i'd imagine).

you should check out all the yoshimi b-sides too, there's a shitload of them, including one of the most awesome covers i've ever heard, "can't get you out of my head" by that one girl who originally did it a few years ago.

They've always been that ultimate ugly caterpillar to beautiful butterfly band to me. Anything pre-1990 makes me cringe, but everything from 1990 forward I can't live without. I saw them a lot by accident when they were a "local" outfit (living in Dallas is pretty local to OKC bands), and it was the same with the live show. Rough rough rough early on, slowly becoming something amazing.

I always hang on to "Clouds Taste Metallic", as awesome as all the newer stuff is, that album speaks to me the most. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to the new record.

they are amazing...but for some reason, yoshimi has never been that amazing to me. its a great album, but there are parts of it that kind of bore me. i'd have to say my favorites are "Clouds Taste Metallic", "Zaireeka", and "The Softest Bulletin".

really, anything past "Transmissions From The Satellite Heart" are pretty much essential
