After reading some post on this forum I think we should ask Skip to take out the Christ in Christianity and let it just be 'I'anity...Because I really see a lack of Christ in this forum... *shurgs* What happened to Love as I have loved you?
I dunno, you spend a lot of time smarting off. Maybe your actions would say more than these words. Yeah.
Seeing how the general public catches it for what it really is, humor, then I'd say I'm in the clear.
You do realize that Kris/Chris is Greek/Scandinavian for "to bear christ" right? So it would basicly be respelling Christianty
because a lot of people come here, because they are interested in christianity, yeah many come to diss it, but there are some real questions as well, and all they have got from a long time is Erasmus who i must admit it an awful example of a christian (at least online, he could be rather charming in the real world) but online, i havn't met anyody quite as rude as him. spread the love peacex
Aye, that is the whole problem on these boards today. The only person willing to respond to questions and new threads (or perhaps frothing at the mouth to respond) is Erasmus, and after reading the first few sentences of his answers, most people would rather just turn away from Christianity and never even read the whole thing. Aren't there any other Christians on this board (besides Burbot; we all love Burby ) willing to step up to the plate and represent Christianity for what it was meant to be?
Going from this logic... X is used as shorthand for Christ, so triple X movies have 3 times the love of Christ in them...
Story Time Kiddies: The Legend of St. Christopher Christopher (which wasn't his name then, but I can't rememebr his previous name) was a large man who carried people across the raging river and one day a child came to be bore across and he grew increasingly heavy as Christopher carried him. At the other side, he was revealed to be Christ and yadda yadda yadda. Thats why Christopher is the Christ bearer...
Is that the actual story? Hahah I never really looked into it. Thanks Burbot. Some reason I always wanna put Burbon
Yeah, thats probobly why he isn't recognised by most churches as a real person anymore (St. Christopher that is, not Jesus) i think there is more in the beginning part that i missed about how he was goign to make a deal with the devil, but then a white cross appeared and he saw how th devil was afraid of it, so he no longer wanted to serve him. But I may be mistaken with another saint story. But yeah, I am pretty sure that is how the story goes. I looked it up after I received a St. Christopher pennant for a graduation present from my grandparents.
Lol ... gotta love all the screen names out there, like ... xXbLaCkXxXmUrDeRxX There must be a ton of Christ in those. ^_^
That was probably pretty common. I mean, a lot of the pagan gods were "transformed" into saints, right? They often have the same names (e.g. St Brigid); so I wonder if it's just sort of a synergism between the pagan and the Catholic.
I am not sure if Christopher was a former pagan god. Here is the wikipedia site on him. My mistake, he wasn't de-canonized or anything, he was just removed from the clander of saints. It also has somethign I dind't know about, a different story about his life from the Eastern and Orthodox churches. I don't contest though that other saints were quite possibly transfered from old Roman gods or such.
Well, I didn't mean to imply all of them were gods, or that all the gods were made saints. I should have been clearer, sorry. I just meant these legends must have been common and would have been transferred to the Christian "pantheon". And who knows, maybe the pagans had some sort of bearer god for crossing streams, maybe a local god that they made popular by putting Jesus in it.
