I had the same problems both times I tried doing the RIT dye thing or something like that. My brother's in-laws got me a tie-dye kit though. It worked well. I didn't follow the instructions perfectly, but they came out cool.

What kinda dye did you use? Maybe the knots weren't tight enough, or something.

what's great about tie dye is that it's a constant experiment...

My friend Peas makes all his own shirts. A lot of them are tie dye. He gave one to me and it's awesome.

I think where I messed up is that you are not supposed to wash it for 8 + hours after you dye it (as in with detergant, you are still supposed to rinse it or whatever) and the longer you let it sit the bolder it gets. Also, I think for those 8+ hours it is supposed to be in a plastic bag or something. I don't know, it may be worth a whirl. I say that if you are fortunate enough to know someone who does it, I would say go ask them to show you, maybe.

i used cold dye and the cold dye fixer

ah maybe thats where i went wrong, because the one shirt that did work dried out before i rinsed the excess dye out. With the rest they were still wet when i rinsed them..... hmmmm...???

let them cure for at least 16 hours at 70 degrees F or higher.
