I know I've put up this thread like 3 times, but I didn't know what category it fell under. Hey guys, I was just wondering if some of you could help me out. See, I'm planning on going on a road trip. I'll drive to and stay at festivals and maybe some cheap campgrounds. This isn't for like 2 years but I'm already giving it some serious thought. I've already started to save $5 a week and soon it will be 10 a week... As soon as I graduate I'm going to buy a vw camper van and hit the open road. But even if I continue to save money, I don't think I'll have enough to cover gas, tickets, souveneirs, drugs, campsite reservations, restocking food, etc... so I thought I'd sell some things. You know, at festivals and in parking lots at shows and whatever. I thought I could find deals on incense and stickers and sell those. I could buy a henna tattoo kit and charge people for me to put them on them too.And I can learn how to make and sell a few things too: hemp/beaded jewelry, tie dyes, knitted clothing (like hats, scarves, socks gloves, etc), candles... and I figure I can cook and sell food too: hot dogs & hamburgers, veggie burgers, beef & chicken teriyaki on a stick, grilled cheese (lol), chili, beef jerky (my aunt makes some really good beef jerky, mmm). Oh and my last idea, premade mix cds. I know this website that has some really cool live performances by the Dead & Phish from the 60s and 70s, but the site also has many other jam bands, new and old. I could sell premade ones and I could print out a list of all my songs and people can pick like 15ish songs, I'll burn them to a CD, make a label, put it in a case, and sell it for a few more dollars than the premade ones. By the way, I will have a friend or two helping me run things, I won't be doing this all by myself. So I need some advice. Are these good ideas? Will I make any money? Does anybody with experience have any tips for me? Can anybody think of some more things I could learn how to make to sell?? Where else could I sell things while on the road? All suggestions are welcome!!
You are pretty industrous. The only thing I wouldn't like is the premix CDs. Musicians make their living on selling their music, when people sell it, without giving them a royalty, it is like stealing from them. I really don't like illegal downloading and selling premixed CDs or tapes for this reason. The Dead let people tape their concerts for personal use, and for trading, but not for people to make money. If you are gong to sell food, you will need a refrigerator IN your van. (Anyone who has gotten food poisoning from poorly stored food from a Show will tell you this.) And concentrate on just one or two things YOU make really well. Things which are harder to spoil are better. Selling meat is not really going to make you a lot of money, as meat is expensive, and has to be stored and cooked properly and a lot of people at shows don't even eat it. You may be stuck with a lot of meat which isn't even good anymore. Concentrate on a few things you do really welll. If you are going to sell crafts, you have to be as good or better than other people doing the same thing. No one will buy crappy crafts. (I am not saying you are making crappy crafts, but I've seen more crap at Shows than I want to think about.) And if it isn't really good, no one wil buy it, and you'll be stuck with overhead. You need money to buy anything you are going to make at shows, you willl also be stuck with things that you will have to throw away (if you do food) or things that no one buys (some crafts.) Look around at Shows and see what sells and what doesn't. Spend your money wisely. Good luck, too.

Yeah thats it. The point of all this is to escape my abusive drunk poor excuse for a mother. and I think I'll be pretty safe I mean I'm bringing a few guy friends with me for the trip. I hate it when people on this site are so negative I mean whats your problem?? If the thread bugs you then just don't reply to it rather than putting me down.. jeez... and yeah the cds i wasn't so sure about but these are just ideas I have a long time to plan for it...

Kids are ignorant because of ingnorant adults bro. Maybe you should be alittle more open and understanding, your not that old and I'm sure you were wishing for something similiar back in the day when you were her age, either that or you were already out doing it. Cd's Bad idea, Crafts are always fun but you need to make sure it's worth what they are paying for, especailly if you want to make money. And what you want is a Volkswagon Bus Westfalia Edition, they come stocked with a stove and a bed, you'll be golden. Another great thing to sell is like a Gumbo or some sorts or a really good cheap stew that you can get rid of for like a dollar or 2 a bowl if you make it good and make it cheap you will bring in a killing. And Dont travel with drugs that equals a bad idea, you will have people wanting to trade you drugs for goods that you have or you can simply just walk up to most anyone at a festival and they will point you in the direction of the goods. It is everybody's dream to see America after they get out of school-the times have changed alot since the 60s-It was fairly safe to travel back then and ifyou broke down someone would stop to help-not much of that today-So-you have 2 years to think about it and you may decide to do something totally different by then-In going on a road trip planning is everything-To start with; I would not buy a VW camper-they break down alot-the VWs today are not real dependable-I would get a used RV or a pickup with a big camper-they are real nice with showers etc.--I have owned many VWs and they blew up in the desert alot-they were aircooled and in the summer out there they cook!-and no ac.-If you plan ahead you can see the Grand Canyon-Yosemite etc-but figure out a time line-and check ahead for motels along the way-VWS don't have showers-for safety-bring a trusted male friend to fix flats and beat up the wierdos living at the rest areas-bringing another girl is ok but not much good if you have to defend your selves--take a cell phone-sign up with triple a for free towing-do not pickup any hitchhikers ever!--In short-for young women to travel the country anymore is dangerous sorry to say-you have 2 years to find a big strong boyfriend or learn how to use a gun and get a permit to conceal it-I am a retired trucker and I have seen many women stranded in the middle of knowwhere-scary!--the better the car the safer you are-As far as making money-working your way across the country sounds much easier then it is-just save enough so you don't have to sell anything-the first time you go broke and get hungry you will let down your gaurd and except help from a stranger who may do bad things to you-go-have fun-but take your own money and when it's gone-go home and save up again-then do like me and my buddie did after high school-go to Europe and see the world-good luck-
