thats what i saw on the history channel. they were talking about hell and said that islam belives that hell is temporary and then you get to go to heavon. jews dont believe in hell and you just go to heavon. hindu and buddhism has reincarnation so there is no hell or heavon, they got Moksha and Nirvana. christians beleive that hell is permanent. so if you belive in one god than wouldnt christianity be the safest bet since if you are christian and your wrong and islam is right than you arent screwed forever, while if your muslim and christianity is right then your fucked over.
trust me, they do. I just saw a whole show where that was the pitch (700 club or something the like). It's manipulative really. And that kinda recruitment tarnishes the religion. If people join simply because it is the "safest bet on an afterlife" they are hardly going to be shining examples of true christianity and spirtitual belief. It is where "sunday christians" come from.

I don't know about that. I am no more afriad of hell than I am the boogyman or vampires...I'm sure there are plenty other's that feel the same. But I know what you are saying, there are plenty that want to believe in an afterlife, but are fearful that one could exist where they are punished eternally. I just think they are being irrational. Hell could be real just like my next door neighbor could come into my window at night to suck my blood....but do I hang garlic from my windows? Nope...
i meant that everyone is afraid of the concept. even you would be scared if all of a suddon someone said your gonna be in extreme pain forever
We don't live in a fairytale land. I wouldn't believe someone that is telling me I am going to be tortured in hell forever any more than I would believe I was gonna be abducted by aliens. I would need FAR more than someone telling me "it could happen" to adjust my life to it.

Acually, we believe that hell is permenant, the temporary hell is for the muslims who Allah decided to punish for their wrongdoing.

i dont follow a specific religion. but i am monotheistic. what i probably should have written in the entry post, what i meant to say was, do muslims believe christians and jews go to hell since they all believe in the same god.

In Islam we have slightly different rules than Christians do, we beleive that if you have faith in Allah, faith in the Day of Judgment, live a life that is pleasing to Allah, by living justly, and furthering his cause, than you amy go to Paradise, if you don't than you go to the fire. Sometimes Allah may wish to punish you temporarily but then allow you to go on to Paradise, this would be sort of like Purgatory.
hell is temporary only for wrongs doers but not for the non-beleivors who make another God beside the one true God.. God may forgive you and you go straight to heaven.. which is eternal.. so we always ask Allah to forgive us and try to do right and right is good isn't it?!
