I've been thinking, many of my friends including myself and most people on this website dress a certain way. It's what I would call that "hippie" look. When you go to shows and really anywhere you can usually tell who are real "hip" Not to say you should judge someone by the way they dress but you know what i mean. Girls wearing the long skirts, sandals, and jewelry. Guys wearing well worn pants or shorts and a t-shirt. Both usually wearing hemp somewhere. For myself it seems the more i get into the "hip" lifestyle i dress more "hippyish." I'm not trying to be some poser or whatever it just happens. So what's yalls thought on this?
yeah, i see what you're sayin' i do it it too, sometimes somedays when i'm gettin' dressed in the mornin' i got "how 'bout the hippy look?" aha, no, i seriously do that but it's always "me" "my style" ya know?
I guess you could say I'm dressed like one right now. Ofcourse, that doesn't make me, or anyone else who dresses like it, a hippie.
Alot of them are preps... I just wear whatever I have to wear. Most of the time I wear flannel shirts, jeans, and a pair of sperry deck shoes... or rockports (I rarely wear any footware outside of those two brands)... or sandals/t-shirt/shorts in the summer... etc. Depends. I do collect tie-dyes... and I used to wake up every morning, take a giant bong rip, and just pick up the most trippy looking shirt that fit my mood for the day... My favorite is probably a Gov't Mule tour shirt from last year. Haha... I used to wear slippers to school just because they were comfortable. I don't really wear hemp anymore I used to wear a hemp necklace all the time, but now I feel like it just says I smoke herb.... but I quit doing that like I used to.
My personal style has been described as "dank," which is a local term for a combination of hippy and preppy (for a girl). I like being earthy and comfortable.. I wear lots of brown, some hemp, loose gauchos, and shirts that have hippie messages on them ("Free to Be," "Love Nature," and "Kindness Can Change the World"... those are ALL shirts from American Eagle, though.. so you can see my point). I also like some collared shirts and Ugg boots and Vera Bradley bags too, though.. soo yeah. It just works with my personality. I don't think it makes me any less of a hippie.. hippie is a way of life, a mindset. Doesn't necessarily have to be reflected by clothing.
People tell me I dress "artsy." When I was in NYC for the past weekend, I met my cousin and his friends for dinner, they told me I looked "boho." I told them, sure, boho, but at a significantly lower price and with more originality. I prefer to use the term "artsy" to describe my wardrobe than "boho" or "hippy." I wear stuff that I... a. afford (Second hand!) b. like c. can fit d. can be comfortable in
I stepped into an American Eagle wearing a black shirt and black baggy pants... Well, let's just say they stared at me like a deer in headlights.
I can usually be found wearing: A band/music related t-shirt (The Who, Marley, Beatled, Hendrix, Woodstock, etc), or a tie-dye shirt. One of my tie-dye shirts that I did myself I wrote on w/ a sharpie front: Power to the people! Back: Power to the people, RIGHT ON! -John Lennon. Then cold, there are 1 of 3 things I will most likely wear over it. 1.) an open flannel shirt 2.)my army jacket with private stripes and peace patches on it and some buttons advocating something political or 3.) (which has been all I have been wearing since I got it about a week ago) my baja hoodie. I usually either wear my homemade bell-bottoms(I haven't been wearing them recently however. For one, they are a little tighter than I would like around my upper legs and they tend to draw a lot of wierd attention from people, like I just returned form a costume party since no one around hear dresses "hippie" in any way except for a very select few people I have met). I have been wearing more recently that style of pants that looks dirty or whatever. They are really comfortable and they look pretty earthy. I don't buy the expensive hollister or abercrombie type, though. I have actually never been in either of those stores. I am either wearing flip-flops or I am barefoot, unless I am at work, any time of the year. I am either hatless, wearing my phish beanie, or I am wearing a hat my mom made for my that my friends call a "honeycomb hat". I also wear a peace symbol necklace all the time and sometimes something made of hemp (that I made, of course.). I am also either wearing my black square framed glasses (perscription) or I will put in contacts and a lot of the time wear my John Lennon style sunglasses (red or amber lenses, I have 2 pairs). But I want some of thos "granny glasses". Those things are cool. Sorry if that was too detailed but I really had nothing else to do.
Yeah, I can deffinately relate. As I said before I used to wear my bells all the time. But since I have become a lot deeper into the hippie lifestyle and just gotten really more laid back, I don't feel like wearing them. They feel "over the top" for me now. The more hippyish I get the more laid back my style gets too.
i don't know if i necessarily dress as a "hippie". i usually wear a band shirt, a plain shirt, or my personal favorite "keep on truckin'" shirt. and then i wear either black or blue jeans. sometimes cords. just depends. they're comfortable. and then i usually wear either my vans brown shoes or my casual, yet dressy brown shoes. i also have a peace sign necklace but don't wear it all that often. maybe i'll start wearing it...anyway, and then i also have a couple of old fashioned hats that i wear whenever i go anywhere. i kind of like wearing old fashioned dressy type of stuff but not to the extremes. so i'm kind of a mix between nowadays' style, 60s style, and 30s and 40s style.
well, i just dress however i want, my lifestyle is of the hippy lifestyle cause i am a hippy, and i like to be comfortable, and tahts what the hippy style offers, loose comfortable cloths that i can do yoga in, chill out in, and be me. sometimes, i throw in a band t, or some comfy jeans, or loafers, no tye dye tho, i just dont like that for clothing, and sometimes, i wear like baseball ts, or chuck tailers, or berkincstocks, i love peasent skirts, and i make alot of my clothing as well, most of it is second hand walmart, vintage shops, or my own creations,
All of my jeans are from lucky. A lot of t-shirts from thrift stores/urban outfitters, polos from penguin, and lacoste. etc. That's pretty much it.
haha i never lived in the 60's and i listen to all type of rock lol i dont call my self a hippie but ever since i started doing weed i keep looking at the possative way of life , not like before i was a depressed teenager , mostly wore black.
sandals, or loaferish shoes, ive been browsing thrift stores for some boots. ive really been wanting to wear some boots. hmm flare blue jeans, or chords, band shirt, sometimes button shirt over a t, or my leather jacket, i wear lots of brown, hempnecklaces, hemp bracelets.
