I know most of us here, probably all of us here never went to either of these fests. but if you had to choose between woodstock and monterey, which one would you have gone to?? definitely, for me, has to be monterey. for the wide range of artists and just the talent!! woodstock is greatly overrated in my book. yeah there were good performances, but its nothing compared to monterey.
my friend has a copy of the monery pop festival, but i didnt see much of it. I just remember seeing the who preform, and they did a great job from what i remember! i'd have to watch the full monery pop festival again to see which one i really prefer
get the critereon collection (3 dvd set). they have the movie, of course, but alot of outtakes, and quite a bit of hendrix's set and otis's set...... almost every band that was there was featured at least in the outtakes. grateful dead wasnt, of course........ but everyone from buffalo springfield to moby grape to paul butterfield, to electric flag, to simon and garfunkel, to the association, to big brother, yadda yadda
thats a tough one. When i was like 14, my aunt showed me the woodstock movie and thats what really got me into this scene. i watched it sooooo much. the monterey was a super peaceful event but i thinki'd rather go to woodstock. I wouldof been right there skinny dipping with everyone else. just beautiful!
Either Woodstock, the Festival Express, or the Rock and roll circus 68, theres no way i could choose.
I know its not the 60's, but if I could've been alive and had the oppotunity to pick only one festival type concert experience 'back in the day' - it would've been Watkin's Glen 1973. The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers and the Band I have the recordings from the Dead show and they are unbelieveable. The primary reason I'd want to be at that one is that it was the largest gathering of people in the history of the US - over six hundred thousand. At that time, it meant that 1 in every 350 people in this country was at that show. Mind you I will never go to Bonnaroo because of its size. Such a huge crowd is rather uncomfortable. I went to both Highgate Grateful Dead shows and the second one, the crowd was 125,000 - unreal and very overwhelming. To be a part of something nearly five times that size and see three of the greatest bands in history at the height of their creative powers had to have been something special.
Thats sad you would choose a festival for drugs rather than the main purpose which is music.....I'm sorry
diddnt the doors get rejected when they tried to get a spot to play at woodstock, but werent alowed because people thought morrison was too unpredictible and might take off his pants? well everyone at woodstock had no pants anyway
