Hey all, the other day i thought id pick up my quill and right a song, even maybe play it with my mates which could be fun... I've written two versus so far, but have gotten very stuck, i cant seem to be able to string good words together to form a song. Also, im a drummer with virtually no guitar experience (i can play the 'Smells like teen spirit' riff... Poorly ) so it's very hard for me to think up the music to go with the lyrics. I dont expect much help here, but tips and stuff from experienced composers will be very much appriciated thankyou!! This is what i have so far: A terricotta mind if held in place a Fragile soul strung in lace im sick of fear of hideen things and those that might be frightening The tides of Clandestine erode away Blue pebbles lose more heart each day We're drowning in a storm of conformity even we, the un content, reborn and free
i suggest learning the basic chords on the guitar, all the majours and minours and the ones that end with '7' and the suspended chords.... you dont need to know everything to put music to words, the best songs are the simple ones anyway. and also, being able to play music on a guitar or piano will most definitely make coming up with words easier. most of my favourite songs of mine i wrote while playing the guitar at the same time... and dont try to write pop songs, they almost always come out like shit if you think "verse verse chorus verse bridge chorus" when you pick up the pen.. just go with what flows, that's being original. them are some good tips.... however, writing's pretty much all luck. of course you need inspiration, but even with that you never know when a good song will come. thats how it is for me anyways
cool thanks, those are some good tips! :sunglasse and its true about the need to be inspired, when im uninspired, in writting lyrics and drawing - (which im much better at) - it becomes impossible to make anything deccent.:H Also, Agreed on the Pop. i hate pop. yucky :$
i like it a lot in the band "Rush", it's the drummer who were writing the most of the lyrics so i think it's not a problem the guitar, and anyways soulrebel51 gave you the best tip
