why do some people insist that he is? they tell you since isreal is close to egypt which is in africa he was black. has anyone heard ofr a black isrealee? a black egyption? nope. these people need to learn geography man
Everyone makes their god their own. White Jesus, Asian Jesus, Black Jesus...it's a folk image. Not a really big deal.
i think it is really, because it means people are trying to scult jesus to -suit them-. if you are black, and you dont want jesus being arab, then why should it matter? same for white people. it just highlights the nature of this sort of religion
There is not now and never has been some sort of 'ongoing issue' or problem over this. You get modern secular satirists or commentators who have a simplistic and race based mentality on their own and then try and project it onto Christianity. For example: A character on a tv show may say "Jesus was Black" and a whole room full of those fucking Conservative Christians are AGHAST and cannot even talk because this is presumably something they believe. There are historical records, some of which are early coins or simple drawings and from some of these artists might build their artistic interpretations: http://www.thenazareneway.com/likeness_of_our_saviour.htm Again, its not surprising that Italian artists would depict an olive-skinned Jesus with black hair, dark eyes. Other more European artists imagine Jesus and surprise, surprise he has Nordic or 'Germanic' features. Could Jesus have been 'Black'? Well, I suppose because it doesnt specifically say one way or the other. Its not likely based on his geography but maybe. The only 'evidence' for this I ever heard was someone insisting that Jesus went and hid in Egypt for a while. Since Eqypt would have had plenty of people from sub-saharan Africa (at the time) then Jesus would have 'blended in' if he was 'Black'. Wow.. weakest 'theory' ever.
Did you hear the joke about the Black and White man in heaven? Black man goes no hes Black White man Goes no hes White A Jew walks up and says no hes Middle Eastern They argue for a bit then the see jesus walking up. So they go okay when he gets here we'll see whos right. Jesus walks up and goes "Como esta hommies?"
Lemme just settle this. Jesus was a Jew of Middle Eastern descent. He was obviously not white or black, and probably looked a mixture between Osama and Abbie Hoffman.
Egypt is North Africa - Arabic countries where indigenous people are Arabs. Yeah, unlike people who think Egyptians are black And how many Israeli people's bloodline goes back to biblical times? Israel was officially established in 1948, 99% of Israeli jews are immigrants unlike the Arabic Palestinians who have been there many thousands of years.
Very rude, man. Perhaps Jesus was FROM Africa. But wasn't Egyptian or North African. Only passed through them before dwelling in the Middle East. I think that's what this fellow was trying to explain.
JESUS was german . my mother had a picture of him with long blond hair ,blue eyes he look like Greg Allman when he was younger .
Does everyone understand that, depending on where we are talking about - Arabs may not necessarily be the 'Indigenous peoples'. Do we understand that there were 'Native' Japanese as opposed to 'Han Chinese' and for that matter you can find all kinds of Aboriginal Natives in places in which they have replaced previous peoples. Yes, its true that Jews were dispersed to the four corners of the planet and consequently, they have 'absorbed' or 'mixed' (whatever you like) with their host countries and those people. Just throwing some things out there.
Also a very good point. It is not so farfetched to know that, even back then, there were wanderers and immigrants, and also small groups of families that were not native, which settled down in other nations.
Main point: JESUS WAS NOT WHITE. He would not have been welcome in a diner in Mississippi in 1962. He probably wouldn't be allowed in most churches today. Long hair, beard, barefoot/sandals, pissed off religious people, drank, hung out with the dregs of society, bucked the religious establishment, and didn't have a permanent address. It's funny how Conservative Christians hate Hippies so much, but WORSHIP ONE.
In addition to Arab peoples, the area of Palestine has always been heavily inhabited by traveling merchants from Africa. The description of a carpenter is certainly indicative of a nomadic tradition, and it is somewhat likely that Jesus was Black. That is to say, if Jesus existed. From my point of view, he was probably a collaboration of charecters and events as in the case of many Biblical and Grecian epics. Apollonius of Tyana anyone?
