    Hello ladies!
I so need some help. A friend of mine Sarah has a baby, he is premature and can barely latch on! She was renting a pump but has been told the baby is too old(3 months) and they will not rent her a pump any longer(how sweet of them to say when a baby is too old to nurse!) Anyways she SO wants to breastfeed(plus it doesnt help she is kinda poor*not to air her laundry) anyways I am running around like CRAZY for someone to sell me an electric pump for super cheap! She cannot find one anywhere she is looking for a LLL in her area but so far no luck.
Can SOMEONE PLEASE PRETTY please Help me in finding one for her I will pay for it ANYTHING is helpful!

(she is using a friends one but its a foot pump and its extremely hard on her right now since she has the 2 kids..... Electric would be the best option for her! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!! )

I have a pump you can have if she wants to pay for the shipping. It's not fancy but it works. It's clean and I only used it for a short while.

If you want to message me I can take a pic to send you v~a email or something. It plugs in and it takes small gerber bottles...or just small sized bottles.

There are hand pumps that aren't so expensive but are still good,I don't know if that's an option for your friend.I used an advent Isis and it wasn't painful or too difficult, but I was only pumping twice a day usually.

i have a real expensive electric one that my aunt gave me that you can buy if you want. . . . but i hated it. i went to the hospital and they gave me a manual one that i make small payments on (its ony 40 bucks). the electric one hurt my nipples so bad. the manual one took a while to get use to but i like to have control on what im pumping. tell her to ask a hospital

How awful! I have rented pumps to the same womyn for more than a year. If she needs it, she needs it. I don't descriminate!

    Have her call this number

1 800TELLYOU. It is the number for Medela, the breastpump company. She puts in her zip code, and zip codes near her and they will give her the names and numbers of LCs who rent pumps.

If she is exclusivley pumping, she won't be able to get by with a purchased working "style" or battery operated pump. She NEEDS a hospital quality pump. She needs a Lactina or a Symphony, and she will get one from this number!!!!

WHO is this who is refusing to continue to rent to her? (A hospital, a private LC, a store?) They could be reported to the international board of lactation consulting examiners if they are guilty of malpractice. If they are IBCLC, that is. If they aren't, not much can be done.

A caveat: DO NOT BUY A USED PUMP!!!! Off of ebay or anywhere else. Viruses, molds, bacterias and funguses can be transmitted, as well as the very good possiblity that the pump you buy is about to break. I get at least 4 calls a month from people who buy a used pump on ebay or get one from a friend (who, of course, "only used it three times") and the thing breaks within a few days. DON'T risk it. BUY ONLY NEW or RENT. The rental pumps are a different style and quality than the purchasable pumps, so there is NO risk of cross contamination or breakage from them. ALso, the Gerber, First Years and Evenflo came in DEAD LAST on usability and effectiveness in about 12 studies. STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!! Especially when you have a non latching premie, you NEED a quality pump. DO NOT use a battery operated thing from Babys R Us, it will NOT sustain her supply. These pumps are just really poor quality. The average "usage time" for even a good battery operated pump, (like the Medela Mini Electic) is about 12 weeks. And that is only using it about 5 times a week. DEFINATELY NOT the pump for a mama with a nonlatching premie.

Have her call Medela today. She will get someone to rent her a pump.

? Does she not want it? It's ok if she does not want it. Just let me know. It's not hard to use really. I probably would only want to use the pump I have for pumping for one child. I read that she has 2 kids. Are they bothe feeding. As Maggie sugar suggested for a lot of use she will need a stronger probably more expensive pump.

I'm all for breast-feeding, but I want to offer a caveat as well:

My son's mother's breasts weren't producing enough milk and we didn't realize it. He was always hungry and didn't gain weight as fast as he should have. The doctor pointed out his slow weight gain to us and we switched to formula. His weight immediately shot up to the normal range and he stopped being hungry all the time. I still feel bad about it, but we really didn't know. So monitor her/his weight gain carefully.

    Good luck!

When I was nursing my twins and each had surgery a week apart, they had a "milk" bank where you could use the heavy duty pumps...I loved that..anyway, that is not what I wanted to say...do you have a LeLeche league in your area? They are all about encouraging breast feeding. When my daughter was born, I used to call a volunteer lady in the late evening and even the early morning asking questions. I didnt have any women in my life who had even tried to breastfeed...the ladies at the LeLeche League were extremely helpful and encouraging....\

I have used everything form a manual to the battery powered (a little junky, but I was determined) to the super duper heavy duty hospitals one.
whatever happens, give your friend kudos for being a dedicated mama, I am sure I speak for most of the mamas here when I say it is well worth it

Yehshe wants it i mentioned having to pay for the other and she isnt able to afford it plus IM paying the s&H for her to have the pump given to her so I would rather yours hunn since your generouse enough to give it to her with only paying S&H.
once again she totally thanks you!

And she is only nursing the one child right now. However if she ever feels that she isnt producing I am going to mention trying to get the other to nurse for a while to kep up production.....

    thanks guys!!!

Yeh she doesnt have a LLL near her at ALL nor can she get help from the hospitals either. She is rather deteremined to continue and well needs to since she is litterally broke badly.
But I will let her know she had kudos's from you :) she will appriciate that alot!

Hippie Muncher, what is her zip code and the zips around her. You can PM me if you don't want to put it on the forum. I can find her a station. MOST, almost ALL, LCs have a "grant pump" situation for poor mothers with babies who NEED to use a pump. You pay what you can afford, often only a token amount. She really needs a hospital quality pump, and I can probably find her a station for you to call.

Hipppie, I just PMed you, Please check you PMs as I found 4 stations in Paw Paw. If you give me more zip codes, I will find more.

    Blessings.

    Maggie
