hiya! i'm a student doing a research project on hippies and i would just love it if u could fill in this survey for me...seriously i don't mind if u hav really short answers, but could you just PLZ PLZ PLZ answer?? thanx!!!

    1. What is...
    (a) your age
    (b) the average age of your group
    (c) the average age of other hippies(or whatever name you use to refer to the group you belong to) outside your immediate group
    2. How do you think your group is portrayed in the media? Do you think that portrayal is fair & accurate? (if not, why?)
    3. As a "hippie" (or other name) many people would consider this a subculture. Do you agree that hippies are parts of a subculture? (If not, why?) [Definition of a subculture: A subculture is generally assumed to be a group of people who share a common value system and beliefs, centred around shared experiences, circumstances, and/or way of self-identifying. Subcultural groups are represented as having a unique style of dress, speech and value. Members of a subculture often belong, at least in part, due to a need to identify in a manner at odds with the mainstream or parent culture around them.]
    4. How much would you spend per week (on average) on material or services related to the group you belong to?
    5. Has anything in your past given you reason to choose to be part of this particular subculture/group? What attracted you to this subculture/group and not others?
    6. Are there any requirements or traits that are necessary to posses to be a hippie?
    7. Why do you think your subculture/group is important to society & most importantly Generation Y? [Generation Y is the generation of youth today, from teenagers to 30 year olds]
    8. Why do you think Generation Y is important?
    9. How important is your hippie identity in everyday life? Is there ever a time when you “step out”?
    10. What kind of activities (hobbies/interests) do you occupy yourself with in your free time? What places do you go to? etc etc

Well I'm probably the worst person to ask, but will see what I can do.
By group I shall refer to the hip forums (that's the only remotly hippyish group I could ever profress to interact with)

    1
    A) almost 19
    B) Err teenages I suppose, but there are older people on other forums here.
    C) No idea as I don't actually know any others offline/ in real life.

    2. There isn't really any media portrayal that springs to mind so I really can't comment. It wouldn't bother me eithier way, because I know the truth and don't care what others think.

    3. In a sense, but I don't think that is as true as it was back in the sixties. Now days people seem more individual and less willing to be lumped together.

    4. Nothing really, I don't buy/do anything specifically hippy. So I honestly can't say.

    5. It just seems to encorporate the values I had or wanted to cultivate.

    6. The values I suppose. This is an oft argued point and has yet to be decisivly answered.

    7. It represents freedom and changing for the better.

    8. It's probably no more important than any other generation... hope for the future maybe.

    9. It's not really, because I don't identity myself in such a way. I am who I am and don't both labelling it.

    10. writing, listening to music, watching movies, hanging out online. I don't really go anywhere.

    . What is...
    (a) 16
    (b) 16-26
    (c) 16-30
    2. no i do not..most people who judge in this time of culture judge you without knowing you. if you get to know a person. then it is fair.
    3. hmm well, i think everyone and everthing has its own point of veiw, and there may be some who have similar or the same...but as you can probably tell..i'm not sure.
    4. i don't know...
    5. not really, it's basically similar to my own beliefs and so i fit perfectly.
    6. i don't know...but love. be peaceful..and believe.
    7. it helps to show important things and be truthful not only to yourself but others. to love and respect all living things. etc.
    8. they are our future
    9. i'm not really sure, but if i want to say something or "step out" i do it.
    10. i like to be with friends. they hold a special part of me. i like forests and beaches. and i like to be i guess anywhere but a mall. malls make me kinda sad. and i find them boring.

    i'm really bad at this..sorry!

Why are you researching hippies? Are you part of the passing hippie fad?

i so replied to this already, but whatever ill just copy n paste my other reply. i think this is dumb tho, if you wanna research hippies research the real hippies, the old people from the 60s that lived through the movement. anyways...

    1. What is...
    (a) your age

    16
    (b) the average age of your group
lets see *doing math* it is 15.1424857
    (c) the average age of other hippies(or whatever name you use to refer to the group you belong to) outside your immediate group
we dont refer to us as hippies, but according to everyone else we are, and theres 6 of us, average age would be....15.1666666
    2. How do you think your group is portrayed in the media? Do you think that portrayal is fair & accurate? (if not, why?)
I didnt know we were portrayed in the media...cant answer this one
I dont think theres just hippies anymore, the whole counterculture is too wide spread to have a single name.
    4. How much would you spend per week (on average) on material or services related to the group you belong to?
if weed counts as a material possession, then....damn, it was like in the hundreds per week i guess.
    5. Has anything in your past given you reason to choose to be part of this particular subculture/group? What attracted you to this subculture/group and not others?
I just live my life like I want to.....[IMG] confusing question
    6. Are there any requirements or traits that are necessary to posses to be a hippie?
love and respect the earth is all I can think of.....be yourself, dont be part of the establishment.....
    7. Why do you think your subculture/group is important to society & most importantly Generation Y? [Generation Y is the generation of youth today, from teenagers to 30 year olds]
umm...I thought it was Generation X. But i have no idea about Y or X.
    8. Why do you think Generation Y is important?
if there was no generation Y, thered be no youth. only old people[IMG]
    9. How important is your hippie identity in everyday life? Is there ever a time when you “step out”?
    step out of what?....
    10. What kind of activities (hobbies/interests) do you occupy yourself with in your free time? What places do you go to? etc etc
on a regular ungrounded day i mostly smoked weed. But now I read alot, and Im on the computer alot. im starting to watch FSTV some too. and now, the plants Ive been growing, well I clipped and dried some, and they are dry now, and I should smoke again tonite. I am so fucking happy[IMG] [IMG]
