i have always dreamed since i can remember, but the last few years nothing!!! i suddenly find that once i close my eyes thats it until i wake up, which feels to be a few seconds!!!!!!!! the dreams used to give a time scale to my sleep which i dont have anymore, some of them would be very detailed, very vivid or just plain silly. i didnt mind as i never worried to much about them, whatever there content. now i go to sleep and feel as tired as when i went to bed! i really miss them, sometimes i would wake up during the night go to the loo or get a drink and then be able to carry on where i left off, like watching the tv and ad s coming on!!

    any suggestions?

this could be indicative of an actual physical problem. if you're waking up tired from these periods of dreamless sleep it could be that you're actualy not getting the r.e.m. sleep along with the non r.e.m. sleep that you are getting that your mind and body actualy needs.

this could come from too much of your waking time being spent arround people with too mundane perspective and coercing each other into them. we seem to be living in a world that has moved alarmingly in that direction.

i don't know what the cure for the greater context might be, but if you're lucky enough it's just you, you might try the old mint under the pillow and look at your hands bit.

also maybe read more real sciffy, or ecotopian kinds of stuff, (not tritely repetitive formulaic fantasy), maybe turn off the tv and avoid the more overly mundane sort of company as well as i suspect overuse of mind altering substances, by taking the place of natural immagination can maybe cause that to atrophy. all these are totaly speculation and if none of them apply to you then they don't. since i don't know i can only guess about any of that.

but i do know it's not natural to not dream. although i've known lots of people who whould swear they didn't. but usualy that's just a matter of not remembering the details of them.

then it could be just me that's having a hard time immagining anyone not dreaming.
maybe if your waking life is sufficiently gratifying you don't need to or something, but this is equaly difficult for me to immagine for anyone, however fortunate their waking life might otherwise happen to be.

Get to sleep 10, yes, ten, hours before you are to wake up. It sounds like you're only getting about 4 - 6 hours of sleep a night.

Nothing on TV? Turn it off and go to bed, even if it is to read a book for an hour or two.

believe me i have got to have 10 hours sleep and yes im not getting it, but i keep waking up after 6. i dont watch tv at all, and i dont read, so i just end up lying there for the next few hours until its time to get up. i had thought that something happening outside of the bedrrom was waking me but no thats not the answer. i go to bed at the same time most nights, thinking routine would help but it hasnt.

Hi darkangel, I wanted to add a suggestion.

Maybe this is not really about the dreams - but about you seeking to wake.

It seems like your body is offering a wonderful response here.

Just trust into the experience. Embrace the quietness of waking hours at night, and use them well. Go into meditation ... explore the mystery of being you ... find the answers within. Have a pen and paper within reach. Enjoy the journey, and do not fear to change. None will keep you from doing so anyway.

Don't forget you are your own wonder, blessing and greatest inspiration. You are your own healing. Life just has a way to reflect it.

Be true, and love who you are ... as simple as that.

    Wishing you well

i havent got a clue what the hell your talking about!!!!!!

i dont want to wake up i just do

i am so tired by the morning that i feel i havent even been to bed

quietness you got to be kidding, the noise from nest doors birds, the cars coming and going, deliveries etc, nothing great in listening to them, they arent the cause of me waking though, we have lived here for over 20 years, and have never woken me before.

Hi darkangel, glad that you speak your mind ... sorry for the confusion.

I cannot bring home your dreams and sleep, also not by advice giving. You are the one in charge of the changes you seek.

So - whatever your challenge is - take it as blessing rather than as disturbance. Allow yourself to grow with it in a good way. Do not mind your life ... change it ... life is so thankful for it.

Sometimes to find what makes one tired, one needs to wake up - not from sleep though but from believe patterns and what they thought was inevitable.

And quietness - this is about the inner quietness - switching off the inner radio that is chatting all the time, and be at peace.

I hope this makes more sense.

i spoke to someone yesterday about this and as they are talents with spirits etc, i feel they offered some insight to this.

i have always been "visited" since as far back as i can remember, the dreams stopped at the same time as the visiting, she accounted for this as, when you are visited they draw from your energy, if you are ill or pregnant then your need for this energy is greater than their need to make themselves known, so they wait until you are better, this kinda sounds reasonable to me, cause i always slept better after i saw one.

sorry if i came over a bit strong didnt mean to, sometimes it just gets a bit lost in words, if you understand?

now it's my turn to not quite see how. how any entity wanting to spare your energy by not appering in your dreams, how this could cause you to not have dreams at all. i should think, if anything, this would just cause you to have dreams without anyone or at least without anyone like them, being in them, not to not have dreams at all.

    i give a few options:

    1. make yourself tired!! en sleep long

    2. stop thinking so much!! cause the only thing why sounds like birds and cars disturb is because your mind is to full with sounds - it's like playing 2 songs (birds/ cars + mind) - yes it sucks - well - shut off the one you have power over!

    3. when you wake look at what is making you think - school, problems with gril/parents - something you have to do ... if you found it - FIX it!!!! get it out of your system.

than, go to sleep - and dream, peacefull.

I've often had very vivid, very surreal dreams. Lately, I've been sleeping rather dreamlessly. I think it's a physical thing as well as some really deep depression. Is this possible?

i suppose that depression could have a part in your case if thats how you feel, rather than just extremely sad, which is the case fore many and just label themselves this way, for me i had a period of time in the depressed state and took medication for it which made me worse, i tried many different pills all with no good effects so i decided that i would have to find another way forward, i has been a long hard struggle at times, but i am on the up, thank god!!!!!

About the depression thing - I had terribly vivid and realistic dreams that weer getting crossed with memories, but only for a period of time when I was at the worst, over my winter break. The dreams were so real that when I woke up, I actually had to think about if what I had just dreamt about had in fact happened. Some of them were exceptionally real except for maybe one or two details, and they were all invariably emotionally intense. Intense to the point where I was left with that mix of emotions for the rest of the day. It was a very rough time, because it was a combination of depression and anxiety.

Which brings me to my next point - your problem is not spirits, that's just silly. It's not noises, as you say...I'd be willing to bet money that it has to do with anxiety. Whether you realize it or not, you most likey are anxious about something and that's preventing you from falling asleep. That's been the cause of all of my sleep problems, and what you describe is something very similary that I've experienced in the past. Just last week, I was staying at a friends house before a trip to Nashville for a competition, and I laid awake until his parents woke up for work, made breakfast and left.

You have to learn to set aside some time each night to plan out your next day, or to think about the things you have to get taken care of and make a mental list. This time is also good for reviewing what happened during that day. I would recommend writing down what you're thinking, as that will help it stay out of your head. The key is to realize that worrying about things while you're trying to sleep is counterproductive; you can't take care of those things at night.

If this has been going on for a period of time though, I'd recommend seeing a doctor about it. You may have a sleep disorder if it's been going on for months.
