Anyone else see this documentary...its about the Amish, well, more or less Amish teens and what happens when they turn 16... Its one of my favorite documentaries, anyone else see it?
When Amish teenagers turn 16, they enter into a time called "Rum Springa" or something like that. It's Pennsylvania Dutch for "running around". Basically, during this time they are allowed to explore the modern way of life. They wear modern clothing, learn to drive, own electronics, date, go to parties, drink, do drugs. Whatever they feel like doing. This lasts for until they decide to either make the decision to join the Amish church, or become a part of modern culture. Most return to the Amish way of life. It was weird watching this because it was the first time I'd heard of an Amish Meth-head.
