Ok me being super pissed off I had to vent. I have been calling the ob/gyno for two days trying to get an appointment since I am having some girly problems. They told me that bleeding for two weeks isnt an emergency so I have to wait like 3 more weeks to come in. WTF? they said it isnt an emergency untill I fill up one pad in an hour. WTF?????????? I'd say that bleeding for more than a week is not an emergency but something that should probably be checked out........ am I right? and not to mention it is annoying so I wish they would tell me wtf is the problem.......

Maybe you should try a different doctor? I know, I hate that too...Bleeding between periods might be an indication of a sponatneous abortion. The only time that has happened to me (bleeding between periods) was when I was pregnant and my body expelled it. It certainly can be something more serious, though.

I wish I knew why it's always so frickin hard to get a dentist appointment, a girly appointment, or an eye appointment.

Call an other doctor, or, if you are filling a pad an hour, go to the ER. A pad an hour is too much bleeding, honey. But two weeks of bleeding should be checked out. Do you have pain or cramps? If so, your insurance will probably cover and ER visit. You could be miscarrying, probably not, but the receptionist doesn't know THAT from a phone call.

Sometimes receptionists give medical information with NO training, once I was in pretem labor and the recep FORGOT to tell the doctor and when I called back she tried to save herself by saying "If Doctor hasn't called you back, he must have not though it was that important." I finally got through to "Doctor" and he FREAKED out that he hadn't been told earlier.

I think the reason it takes so long to get an appointment is because doctors fill their schedules up so tight, and (even for an ob/gyn) usually count on a 10-15 minute visit. When I was in Oregon and insured, my doctor told me that legally in order to schedule a full pelvic exam she had to clear an at least 45min block of time for that single patient. Hence, most doc's only do so many pelvics per day, week, whatever... and people fill those slots quickly and (usually) months ahead of time to schedule their annuals.

In any case, I've been told that ibuprofen can actually slow your blood flow, and it's worked on me in the past. Good luck, hope you feel better!

well thing is I can't really call another doc cuz its a military doc.......... blah, if i go somewhere else I have to pay out the ass..........

i'm not filling a pad an hour or anything, it's pretty light but none the less annoying as hell and something the doc should check out, they finally said they would call if they have any cancellations but DAMN

Hey, that's nothing. I had to wait 4 weeks for an "emergency" appointment for a cardiac specialist. In fact, I'm still waiting.... and this was a referal from one specialist to another.

I usually have at least one doctor's appointment a week (of some sort) and I'd say I'm with you. They are usually scheduled weeks in advance.

...you'd think for an emergency though (symptoms that are precursors to heart attacks) they'd try to squeeze me in, but apparently someone whose heart just "isn't feeling right" is of more importance. Oh how the world turns.

In ERs all over the country, chest pain gets priority to just about anything, save a penetrating chest or closed head wound. They have to take chest pain first. If it is bad, ID, go to the ER.

I hope you are both feeling better.

wow, it is getting really hard to find doctors who have enough time for their patients. I would figure an emergency like that would get first priority.................. especially a referral from another specialist.

my son had an appointment with a neurologist that I called a week in advance to find the exact time and date.............. his office never returned my call and never answers their phones.............. but managed to send a pre printed generic letter about missing the appointment, and I couldnt just drive up there because it is two hours away............

i know that there are only a certain number of specialists and everyone goes to them but it is insane...

You know about a month ago I called up my gyno because I've been having some serious issues with the pill that she put me on ( it gave me intense migraines, cramping, nausea, all that other fun stuff, and the symptoms continued even after I stopped taking it). Anyway, the secretary tells me that she had her medical liscence revoked and is no longer in practice, but she couldn't tell me why. Isn't that some shit?

I also have to comment on how much I love your sig pic maggiesugar

Some doctors just have no time for girl problems. I went to my (female) doctor several times over the course of 3/4 months because I was bleeding without a break, and she just kept telling me that I was young and my body hadn't sorted itself into a cycle. This despite the 3-4 months of non-stopness, the fact that I couldn't walk far without getting really out of breath etcetc. Eventually I went to a walk-in centre, they took one look at me and said I needed to go straight to hospital. I spent 4 days in the Obs/gyn ward getting a blood transfusion because it resulted in severe anaemia and my haemoglobin level was 1/3rd of a normal persons.

Needless to say, I don't see that doctor anymore

That's true, but I don't need an ER. Emergency room doctors treat symptoms, not the source of the problem. My particular problem has been ongoing since the age of 16... it pretty much consists of me getting pushed around in circles, going from one doctor to the next, and this specialist and that specialist... no one knows what is wrong.

But soon, hopfully, it will be permanently fixed.

It is a pain to get a doctor to take us seriously sometimes! I've been having some problems with bleeding in between cycles too, and pretty heavy cramps during menstruation and sometimes briefly in between. My doc says it's nothing much, lots of people have those kind of problems and I shouldn't worry about it, and she did a brief exam once (just with a spectrum) but it still bothers me a bit... I'm not too happy with my GP, she tends to say this 'oh, lots of people have that problem' thing a bit too often as far as I'm concerned. However it's not easy to switch doctors, they all have a pretty full schedule and they don't just take patients from another doctor without a very good reason. Oh, and in my case it's no misscarriage -I'm not sexually active. I'm a bit worried it might be endo -it's not as bad as what some people describe but I still recognise a lot of the symptoms.

OK this isnt completely graphic but probably not anything a guy wants to listen to HAHAHA ok so doc said everything is normal, and i might be allergic to well EVERYTHING and I was just irritated and everything looked ok..................................................... She changed my birth controll perscription but I didnt pick the new one up yet cuz I wanted to get the old pills out of my system. She said if it keeps up come in in 3 months, seems like a long time but oh well.

but she made slides and looked at em under a microscope in the same room I was in, seemd quick to tell me it wasnt a yeast infection or any other type of infection and I was just "irritated" for lack of better words....... has anyone ever had a doctor pull out a microscope and do the labwork type stuff in like 5 min in the same room as you???? WEIRD.

Yep. I consider these good dotors. They do the work themselves, instead of sending off to some lab to get lost, or make you wait more. I hope you are feeling better soon. You don't have to wait to "get the old pill out of your system" hormones leave your system pretty quickly (which is why you have to use a different BC if you miss one or two pillls) and if they are just putting you on an other Pill, they will be the SAME hormones, just in different doses. You can start the new ones right away. (As soon as you get your period.)

For the poster who had the doctor who had the licensce retracted. There are websites where you can find out why. http://www.idfpr.com/DPR/disciplinary.asp

my old doc in garden grove was a cranky old bastard, but DAMN, he was good. i really miss him. i don't care if they're nice, necessarily, just so long as they listen and are RIGHT. and he'd tell you off if you were not taking care of yourself properly, and he could squeeze absolutely ANYONE in. his patients were all incredibly loyal and perfectly willing to wait up to an hour after their appointment to see him because we'd all had a turn of being ushered in on an emergency call. i'm getting all sentimental and should call him now. he was like a cranky grandpa to me.

Three weeks for an appointment? That is seriously out of whack. Does this doctor seriously expect you to schedule your illness a month ahead of time? "Please don't cough on me honey, I can't get an appointment at the doctors until April".

I'd seriously be filing a complaint about them. If this doctor is being paid by the military to be a doctor the least they can do is actually bother to see patients.
