Hey, I have to write a persuasive paper for my English class. My partner has to argue one side and I have to argue the other. I picked the meat industry. I can argue against it but is there any good defense for it? I will have to find a new topic if I cant argue both sides.

The only "good" defense for the meat industry is the fool's stance:

I win! You suck! I win! You suck! I win! YOU SUCK, HAHAHAHAHAH NOOB YOU CAN'T BEAT ME WAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!!1111!!!111oneoneone!!!11

It's the only defense that can't be beaten no matter how good the argument is.

Edit: If you aren't arguing against the meat industry, why not switch places with your partner?

Also ... I think you both should go into it with tons of arguments against the industry, and only a few beatable ones for the industry. And just tell the teacher, "honestly, there just ... aren't any decent arguments out there in favor of the industry."

as a former dabater, I say learn every pro meat consumption argument out there and deconstruct it.
Some hold water until you bring up HOW we raise meat today, for example.
Use the industry itself, National Cattlemen's Beef Association/ beef.org
pork councils, Tyson, oh...who's that restaurant and bar group that always bashes Peta? ... Consumer Freedom.
Weston A Price foundation has some points, and I thouroghly agree with their whole food stance, I just don't want to eat anything that started as sperm.
Neither diet is perfect for all. But factory farming of animals is indefensible.

I agree. I haven't heard an intelligent defense for meat. However, it would be good to have this topic. Your peers might ask you questions (some absurd) but answer politely and let them know you have info. Also, offer free veg starter kits (available online)

The only way I can think to go is to throw around that "it's natural to eat animals! Animals eat animals; it's in biology." Or you argue about the -still standing- food pyramid (even if it's only really supported by corporations and tobacco companies).

Or are you fighting for meat production, instead of health? Because there aren't even enough lies or half-truths to sugar that stuff up.

Best of luck to ya! :p
