    GLORY DAYS

    I had a friend was a big baseball player
    back in high school
    He could throw that speedball by you
    Make you look like a fool boy
    Saw him the other night at this roadside bar
    I was walking in, he was walking out
    We went back inside sat down had a few drinks
    but all he kept talking about was

    Chorus:
    Glory days well they'll pass you by
    Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye
    Glory days, glory days

    Well there's a girl that lives up the block
    back in school she could turn all the boy's heads
    Sometimes on a Friday I'll stop by
    and have a few drinks after she put her kids to bed
    Her and her husband Bobby well they split up
    I guess it's two years gone by now
    We just sit around talking about the old times,
    she says when she feels like crying
    she starts laughing thinking about

    Chorus

    Now I think I'm going down to the well tonight
    and I'm going to drink till I get my fill
    And I hope when I get old I don't sit around thinking about it
    but I probably will
    Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture
    a little of the glory of, well time slips away
    and leaves you with nothing mister but
    boring stories of glory days

    I listened to the whole Born in the USA album this morning on the record player my roommate bought yesterday from a garage sale for five dollars and I drew oil pastel pictures of her laying across the room from me but I could never get her face quite right.

    Hey Gate;
    Great tune that about says it all. I guess it's too bad that I am not on speaking terms with most of my friends from the day-I do not take betrayals lightly. I still do hang with Mario and Doc from time to time but then again; neither of those to cats have put the knife to my back ever. I guess these are what I call "true friends". And it's all kind of weird cuz Mario and Doc no longer see eye to eye-opposite ends of the political spectrum I suppose.

    Gate;
    I was reading about some ancient Greek Philosopher about three decades ago who theorized that societies go through cycles of love and hate. That they whiff and woof between togetherness and fractiousness? Well about thirty years ago I had all kinds of friends, connections, stimulation and who the heck needed anything like an internet? Fast forward to today and Katie and I live on our own little island with a few lifelong friends and family on other ends of the country we see a few times a year. Our jobs pretty much rule how we live day to day and I certainly could use some relief from this endless money grubbing! Maybe it was a function of age and circumstance but that Ancient Greek Philosopher sure called it right in our case. It would be nice to woof back into a love phase! Still you see people locked into their cubicle worlds and got to wonder if there hasn't been a larger fractiousness going on in the world.
