ok, about 3 months ago i got really into Syd Barrett. It's crazy how much i like his music( with pink floyd and solo) the amazing feeling i get when i listen to his music or see pictures of him or have a conversation about him is phenomenal. I was interested to know if anybody else here likes Syd Barrett's work or what you think about it or if any other bands have made you feel this way

    hey :]

i like syd barrett too! he was crazy, but fascinating and talented.
I've read something about his life and i decided to buy the first Pink Floyd album,to listen his work, and i loved it!
The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is psichedelic, and it's really good to listen it,in your bed, with your eyes closed. Fantastic.
And i think he had a curious personality,i feel sad when i think he left the band because of the drugs :(
    He was a good leader,imo.

If you like Syd so much, you've come to the right place. I'm always surprised at how many Syd fans there are here at the Hip Forums, and how at the same time I've never actually met anyone who likes him. :p

I read someplace that he had a prior mental illness even before he was a part of Floyd. A really great site that seems to have mountians of information is http://www.pinkfloyd-co.com/mast_idx.html

it is really great and always updates with new info.

syd had a bunch of mental problems, he was impossible to work with, or so the legends go... the rest of the band asked him to leave because he pretty much had lost his mind because of prior disturbances in his life and all the acid he was eating.

i used to love his music, and though i still obviously have a ton of respect for the man, i havent listened to anything of his in months.... just kinda listened to it all too much.

enjoy him while you can. :D :)

That happens to me with most artists I love. For example, while the Velvet Underground is probably my all-time favorite band, I've hardly listened to any of their music over the last four months or so. Sometimes you just need a break, you know? :)

As for Syd, I go thorough phases. Sometimes I can listen to a lot of him, sometimes it just doesn't fit. I put The Madcap Laughs in my car yesterday, but I have no desire to listen to The Piper at the Gates of Dawn right now. It changes from week to week and month to month. I always come back to the artists I love, though. :)
