Hello Hip parents! A 'net friend of mine is happily pregnant for the first time and just posted in her livejournal asking parents for a list of the essentials that she should purchase or aquire for her new childling. I wanted to pipe up with suggestions of cloth diapers and maya wraps, but I've never had or raised a child. 'Since I know that many of you are bohemian/earthly minded I was wondering what sort of advise YOU would give her? What should she buy, what essentials does she need for her little one? Thus far her only ideas are: Baby powder, Car seat, and diapers... *bows* thank you!
No baby powder!! It is not healthy...the airborn particles will get into the baby's lungs!!! Instead, have her get A&D ointment or Desitin for diaper rash. Diapers, car seat, wipes, a FEW newborn size clothes (they grow sooo fast, don't ever get too much of one size). If she is breastfeeding and co-sleeping then you'll need no bottles or crib. Toys are not important right now. I always liked those booties with the rattles built in...whenever baby kicks, she rattles!! All they really need is a loving mama. Ooh...a good lotion for baby massages is nice, too. My daughter is 18 months old and LOOVES getting a back massage with her "loshe."
a carry-around bassinet bag/blanket sleepers blankets for swaddling and a comfy carrier to wear so she can walk around with baby on her there is a post on here about the same things, check it out...you might find some other suggestions there.
Heh, thanks Earthy Mama, I JUST read that other post. Oi. I blush. I did link her to it, though... But hey, if people are interested, Please! On with the lists! The more information, the better! ^_^
