Hi, Up to 300,000 baby seals will be culled in Canada soon unless we put pressure on the Canadian government. Sir Paul McCartney and his wife, Heather Mills have been out to Canada to protest and condemn the cull. The cull is in place to apparently save the Canadian fishing industry and to also because there is a huge demand for seal fur in the Middle/Far East. I live in the north east of Scotland and I'm one of the fortunate people that gets to see seals outside a zoo environment. I can't believe the Canadian government thinks seals are the reason for depleted fish stocks. Idiots. We have seals swimming alongside the fishing boats in the harbour.
Just curious as to why you think the seals are swimming beside the fishing boats? I bet its cause they are best friends with the seagulls.
Yes seals will eat the fish, never doubted that fact for a moment. I guess the fishermen over here don't worry about that based on the fact that they bring more fish back on a trawler than one seal would eat in about 5 years. Fish are a seal's natural foodsource, I really don't think seals are responsible for depleted stocks.
Its more of the fact that the seals don't have many natural enemies, so there populations are skyrocketing.
Like with deer in the united states? But why can't those natural predators keep the populations in check like they used to?

I agree.. personally i dont see how it is any different than the slaughter houses.. the only difference is that cameras arent allowed in the slaughter houses... Over 90% of the seals are shot now.. and the footage that was used on larry king live was from 1986... seal population has tripled over the years.. i think its wrong to kill anything, but why target the seal hunt when the exact same thing is happening to other animals.... just my view on the subject..
Seals are the fucking rats of the sea. If they get into a fishing net, they'll take one bite out of each fish. We used to shoot them from boats with .22s... The bullets just bounce right off their skulls. Of course it's a much uglier variety on the West Coast.
I don't see why we have to play God and cull animals in large numbers just because we feel there are too many of them. If we hunt for food then fair enough but culling seals is basically playing God. Seals have plenties of natural enemies such as foxes, polar bears, sharks, killer whales. You can't blame a seal if it just happens to be smarter than the average bear.
I agree entirely with that. The seal cull in Canada involves dashing seals brains out.There have been reports of seals being skinned alive for their pelts.Is this a way to organise a cull in a civilised world?.What difference would it make if the cull never took place.It has a lot to do with money & preserving jobs.
I'm sure most animals would agree (if they had the brains and thoughts to) that humans are becoming out of control and maybe they'd like to cull a few of us. Look at the damage we cause.
