when he says this of "us" Matthew 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. Why bother? I thought he "loved everyone" Doesnt sound that way. And later he wouldnt help a gentile women with her child until she basically claimed herself to be lower than a Jew. Then he helped, saying she has good faith. Something about feeding bread to dogs, but dogs eat the masters crumbs or something. Still, sounds "anti-gentile" to me, like a nazi on the other team.
He wasn't speaking directly about or to Gentiles. He didn't consider alot of Jewish leaders of his day holy. Read Matthew 8:10-12 It explains how Jesus felt about Gentiles.
I thought the main reason Jesus was killed because he proclaimed he was the son of God for all people Jews and Gentiles, isn't that what really pissed the Jews off?
deep analysis, my question was about him calling gentiles pigs, and now with your wise words, fools. If he wasnt refering to Gentiles, then why is that a popular interpretation?
Heron, what is the verse for that incident with the woman and child? Isn't there also passages where Jesus says not to preach to Gentiles? However, I do believe there are passages (later on in the stories of the Gospels) where Jesus speaks about preaching to the entire world? Also, I am not sure if there is Gospel verses that go along with this, but Paul (I do believe) writes that there is no Gentile and no Jew, and i think this ties in with his analogies about circumcision. I will admit though, these wouldn't help the acctual argument here because we are dealing with Jesus, and these are Paul's works... EDIT: If I have time after getting my homework done, I will try and find some of the passages that I mentioned so my post isn't quite as much of a "guessing game" on my part.
Jesus was stating that when men twist God's words of truth, and try to harm the people who speak it, those are the men He refers to as swine.
You guys ever heard the theory that jesus was father by a roman? I agree with kharakov that statement is about wisdom. Plus herrmination is right too the jews hated him cuz he was a self-proclaimed leader. Something that went against the rabbis and the priesthood. What would it say if now all the sudden it didn't have to be a wealthy government offical to be king? I don't think the priesthood would've held up. Another thing is the etymology of barrabba the criminal that was saved before the crucifixion. This is a mistranslation the real version says, Bar Rabbi. Meaning the son of a rabbi, it was never a criminal it was the pompous son of a rabbi that they chose over him to live or die. Kinda like the first presidential campaign only with dire consequences for the loser.
