How difficult is it to get into an Australian university?

Not that difficult, provided you are attending a uni/college in your country. I think that for most degrees Australian Universities dont charge much compared to the United States. If you want a laid back uni try the University of Wollongong which gets alot of international students, particularly from the United States http://www.uow.edu.au/prospective/international/

yeh the uni of woollongong is easy to get into as well

i dunno how the SAT converts to UAI, but you can think of it like this: high level subjects usually require you to be in the top 10% of the candidates, a lot of worthwhile degrees require top 20/30 %, and if youre not in the top 30% you can still get into degrees, especially at woollongong lol but lots of other unis too, but theyre not as highly regarded.

    thats in nsw

  5. I got into an Australian uni...

that says bad things about Australian unis

Anyway, what stoner bill said....or its probably a better idea to do one or two years in your own country and then transfer or exchange. Definitely a cheaper option unless you're from one of those wealthy chinese families.

eh, its such a different animal. where we have like thousands of universities and colleges in the US there are like 15-20 or something in Australia. Populations like 20 mil which means there's only a uni-going potential for about 4 max. and you get like...2 options...its a scam, to me. i started doing a post grad degree in film here and popped out cuz it just isn't set up for what i need. i work full time during the day and yet all the classes i needed to take were day time studio classes. There are at least 25 schools in the states where i could do a Masters in film and have all night studio classes...it sucks really...my rant

the do is of course for Aussie's to go to school in the US. I have a bunch of friends doing Uni in the states, especially on sports scholarships b/c that doesn't exist in Oz as there aren't collegiate sports.

  7. Thats probably the biggest load of shit i've ever heard. We get plenty of exchange students in OZ for the simple fact that our reputation for educational standards is far higher than yours. ;)

huh? whereas you are like, dunno early 20's student wearing your harris scarf tied to tight round your head, i've gone to uni both in the states and in Oz. I've taught High School in the states and in Oz. I've lectured here on numerous occasions...and i can tell you that the educational standards here in the collective states are far less then those in the majority of US states, certainly all those in the NE. As someone working in education, I kind of am 'in the know'. So yeah didn't really want to paint a CV there but i think its good for reality to say 'hello' from time to time. You I am sure have a much better handle on the current retail prices of Palsonic lcds and those nice colorful wool sweaters that seam to be the rage round these parts.

anyhoo, i probably wouldn't have written anything if you hadn't of cursed.

  9. I know what you mean mmm. But you are a man of occassional arrogance...so i read you that way. And, anyway, going by reputation, the US stinks. Of course in all practicality, personal experience is a far better measure so i'll take your word ;)

cheers. My arrogance is quite inflated by the fact that this is a forum on the internet. And I agree that the US stinks...very much so. I also agree that Oz stinks. Everywhere stinks...except maybe Qatar, that place seems to be the current paradise on earth.

  11. I meant education wise. I don't actually think the us stinks. You're funny.

And come on, you're arrogant. Be a man, admit it. Doesn't mean i don't like you ;)

Where have you been any way?

Seriously though...my arrogance here is a bit of a monster at times. I am not even close to being as arrogant as I type here...but I kind of purposely do it..Ya know...I don't know its funny and sometimes I just like to stir people up and be a jerk. It is after all a forum and I am not looking to 'make' friends. I look away from the computer to do that stuff. Not that I don't like you or want to be your friend...wow I can just hear the arrogance in your ears right now. Hmmm..

I am on holidays again..thanks to the commonwealth! That of course means that I am sitting on the couch doing work, listening to classic rock on Virgin online radio and taking the occasionaly break to read and type here. I work heaps at school and home so i don't ever have time to even browse through the forum...so I'll be a holiday particpant exclusively.

It is also obvious that I have much to say as I am obviously quite lonely and seem to be telling you my life story here and now for all to see. I am of course not sitting here naked, which I think could change if you play your cards right ;) ...

  13. he he, I sit on the computer naked all the time, or at least with a towel on.

Seriously, sometimes im too lazy to get dressed :(

Good that you're enjoying your holiday..anyway, did your wife join hipforums for a while?

The reason Australia gets so many exchange students is because they're country is one huge fucking beach.

  15. That blows my argument out of the window. You're right. Its not that special when you live here though.

I rather take a chance shooting it out at Waco than swiming in that water. That goes as well for the few rivers.

i love lazy. my wife has probably never heard of hipforums. i don't think i have ever really mentioned hipforums to anyone, now that i think of it. it's kind of my little secret...especially when i'm naked and feeling naughty ;)

i may very well be leaving Australia next year. the cost of living in Melb is killing us and we want to buy a house. i am also very desperate to get back into my degree. i'm a wanna-be filmaker  ..."sure you are," she says.

  18. Thats good mmm, go for it.
