i help people and i enjoy helping and i feel better about myself by helping others, why do you help others and the enviroment?
Very simple my young friend. It's because someday in my own future, I may NEED another person, or oxygen. Or maybe medicine made from some plant. I don't want to run out of either on.
i help because it makes me feel good. i love life, and do want to take it for granted, and want to give back. i believe it is natural for us to care and help one another and our planet. i love life so therefore as in human love, i will do what ever i can for it
No matter what your actions in some way or another it can be thought as an act of selfishness. If you get enjoyment then you did so for that feeling ect. Just be happy that some ware trying to change the ways of the many.
I do it because I feel the need to. No other reason accept that I care for both people and the enviorment and it seems as if not many other people in my day to day life really do. Or they say they do and don't do a thing.
Anyone who does something to make themselves feel better is acting out of as much self interest as Matt's theory, just not as honest about it. On tour, I often saw a sticker:" Save the planet so we have a place to boogie." So if the other species get a benefit from my self-motivated interest, is that not a good thing? I stand against oil shale exploration because it is a net loss of energy first, and more drilling and / or mining second. I like natural fibers. I dislike many created ones. Fleece is an exception, but I understand what is needed to grow fiber crops, esp cotton (if you go green with only ONE thing, One purchase in your life, suck it up and pay for green cotton) and I understand what it takes to created polyfibers, so I use a fabric until i'm almost indecent. My shoes are eight years old and probably entering middle age. LAstly, I beleive we are here, with gifts of knowledge that we have, to be caretakers of a planet that is only borrowed. I also support advocacy organizations like Rock the Earth www.rocktheearth.net so they can research and lobby issues important to keeping this planet a working biosphere.
Well my reasons are not completely selfish, but like gandhiwars, I feel I need to cos nobody else will. Reusing stuff involves alot of hand washing and it's tempting to use disposables just so I don't have to wash it. I'm using pads and tampons more and more these days, at least for the first 2 days, then I use the rag. I get a certain satisfaction when I use my own shopping bags. I don't get any feel of satisfaction with a vegetarian diet. I do what I do cos I care about my future, the future generation and esp. biodiversity.
What I mean when I talk about people, is I want as many friends as I can get. That's why I help people when I can.
"We did not inherit this planet from our parents, we a borrowing it from our children." Gosh, I love that quote! By the way Drumminmama, thanks for the Rock the Earth link you shared with us! I am checking it out right now. I help people because they are my fellow man and I love them.It feels like the rigth thing to do. I help the enviroment because I love the earth as well. I believe it is a gift from God to mankind for us to take stewardship over. It is up to us to protect this wonderful planet! (I have theen the "so we can have a place to boogie" sticker, I think on GypsyRose.com. I thought it was funny and cool. I have several enviromental bumper stickers, one of which says "Earth First: We'll destroy the other planets later" and one that says "Daddy, what were forests like?".)
