Yes, but the real reasons we are in these countries are not just to help people. That is what they want us to think... we really don't have a clue what it's all about. There have been countries suffering for years and no one has helped them.
Well, if Canada refuses to leave once Afghanistan is stable, we can then call them an occupying imperialist nation. Until then...
what is the real reason Canada is in Afghanistan then? You're right, there have been countries suffering for years. Unfortunately, we dont have the manpower/money to help everyone.
It's been 5 years - how long exactly should we stay? Until it is as safe as Canada? Until there is no violence whatsoever?
I'm sorry, but saying something like "until there is no violence whatsoever"just ridicules the situation in afghanistan, which is rather dire. Ideally you'd stay until the government was fully capable to maintain its security on its own. Obviously there may be other reasons that may require the withdrawl of canadian forces, but an immediate withdrawl should not even be considered. 5 years? we've had troops in places for 60+ years. Dont worry, you're doing the right thing.
Hey, that is so true brother... Power, and Money... Unfortuanly many people don't see the plane truth, that if Iraq had no oil.. they would never have been invaded.. but I guess that goes to say with every criminal (bush included), If its known that a person has no valuble possessions, no one would bother robing them.
See, I think that is whats different about me and you Mefara: I don't see Nato as my master.. and I am not thier slave.. I don't see my PM as my leader or chief.. he is a monkey our coutnry voted in.. he works for us, we pay him, and we should tell him what he should do.. if this was prison, he would be our bitch... I would also never die for this country, or follow it to war... I just live here.. and pice of land is nothing more to me than dirt to build a home one.. its the same everywhere in this plannet... Canada is no my country, its just were I live... my government is not here by my choice.. this is just how things work when you live under a dictatorship... I hate to say it to you brother, but, neither me nore you live in a free country... they just work very hard to make us think we do. Your poor excuse for a government, as well as mine leaves many countries to die, as well, they support, arm and fund others who are killing innocent people daily... but it can again be sumed up with one word.. it sucks to be poor doesn't it?
Nows your chance to stop a country from dying. Make your mark on the world and help 30,000,000 people. They're counting on you.
Sorry, I don't follow propoganda, and flag waving talk doesn't work with me... I think you may have mistaken me for a sheep. Here is an idea... lets just leave people alone... lets treat our coutries for what they are (soil, rocks and water)... nothing more... lets treat our flags for what they are.. just usless pices of material with fancy logos on them... and lets treat people the way we oursevles would like to be treated... You can dress shit up as nice as you like, but thats all it is in the end....
i dont know why you're going on about soil and dirt. "Lets just leave people alone." Dont you understand that you are WANTED THERE by the afghani government? They were oppressed people. They werent being left alone to live peacefully. Dont make it sound like Canada is being some bully picking on people who just want to live free lives. You know damn well thats not the case. How about, "lets not be selfish"
i'm done. I'm not gonna waste my time with a person who thinks Canada is bullying people in Afghanistan.
Sounds good bro... lets just agree to disagree... Anyhow, all in all, an interesting debate. Peace... and lets move on
canada as peacekeepers ,yes ..but if harper has his way it won't be peacekeepers for long ..it will be occupying forces ..which is contrary to nato resolution
*bangs head on desk* Harper is more moderate than that - and besides - there would be public outcry to have him thrown out of office if he ever decided to have our troops occupying Afghanistan. Think people - it's just not going to happen. The Peacekeeping Canadian troops have a mission to take out taliban members who pose a threat to the Afghani government. Harper needed to show some public support for our troops and this mission. How many troops do we have serving in total over there anyway, 2,100??? Our Canadian troops are doing something very important - they aren't trying to overthrow the government like the US has in Iraq. Paul Martin would have shown the same support and done the EXACT same thing Harper would have done - he would have made a public speech to the Canadian people in support of this mission. There is simply no use debating otherwise. I have personally had a hard time with this issue originally, because I was afraid that Canada would become the next Denmark. (Hey, nobody could have predicted such chaos - of all places, let's destroy 'Denmark'???) To ever imagine that Canada will be attacked by a Middle-Eastern Terrorist group on the scale of the attacks in the US, Britain, Spain, Egypt, France, and the list goes on... is far too unreal and deeply saddening for me to imagine. I however, do not believe that this mission will escalate and inspire a terrorist attack on Canada for the simple fact that the Afghani people actually WANT us there and support our mission. Barely a handful of suicide bombers do not.
well, you WERE part of the coalition that overthrew the taliban...so you did overthrow a government. Dont worry, you arent evil. BTW, al qaeda has said number times that Canada and canadians are "on the list."
hmm if i may butt in i honestly dont think canada should be in afgan AT ALL, but we made a commitment with UN so we should keep it, however since the UN does not endorse the &#@!ing retarded invasion of Iraq, if Canada ever send troops there, i'm gonan protest till it hurts. speaking of which, i heard that the PM wants to send Troops over to Iraq. anyone else here of this or is it just me?
