be aware that the vase will probably shatter, unless youre using a special drill bit.

as for a bowl, i dont have any ideas for a stem, but try using a metal frosting tip as the bowl itself.

for home-made bong stems i use a 5/16" socket attached to a pen tube.

I use the metal cone that you can screw off of some pens. It's the part that surrounds the ink tip. It's kind shaped like this "V" only it has a hole at the tip. I've been using those since I started smoking, and they haven't let me down. Just make sure there's no ink on it, and that it's clean. Scuse me I'm a bit tipsy. Good luck!

umm... this may sound kinda stupid, but if it's a vase, isn't their already a hole in the top? Couldn't you put the bowl there, in a rubber stopper, with plastic tubing coming from the same stopper? That way you could avoid that whole "special drill bit" thing.

I make a bunch of pipes, with a bamboo stem and a dresser knob. I drill a hole down into the top of the knob and then carve out the bowl, then make another hole for the stem. Then you just stick a hollow bamboo stick in and... wham!

I like using a smaller bowl, because it helps me figure out the least amount I have to smoke to get high. That way my tolerance stays low, and my stash lasts longer.

I don't have a steady dealer (maybe one deal every 2 months), and when I do buy I usually get a dime bag or a little over. I have to spread my stash out to keep me flying in between "green exchanges" (green bills for green buds).

Sorry... forgot whom I was talking to... hahaha.

You have a vase... vases have openings in the top in which one usually puts flowers. Instead of flowers in the hole, get a rubber stopper from the hardware store. Drill two holes in the stopper (some already come with one hole, so in that case, you would only need to drill one). In one hole stick the bowl, with some copper/metal pipe going down into the vase (think water bong). In the other hole, stick some flexiable rubbing tubing, going down far enough into the vase, but not hitting the water. Suck on the other end of the plastic tubing, and light the bowl. Voila... a water bong with no drilling the glass.

ok i still dont fully get it

the top hole of the vase is still open though...trying to suck up whatever smoke you can out of it i dont think you will get much smoke, it will all just leave the open hole, plus you would need more suction for the smoke to actually occur doesnt it?

no, the hole in the top of the vase is not open. The hole in the top of the vase is where the stopper and all the stopper-stuff goes.

but still, dont you need more suction for the smoke than just a tube?

if you have a thick enough tube and as long as the top is air tight, it should hit. It will work more like a hookah at that point, rather than a bong... I've done it before with a office cooler water bottle, its pretty awsome.
