so i'm looking for a game that lets me rule a country. sounds simple, yes? well, i started playing tropico not too long ago and was majourly let down. you dont control the prices of anything aside from housing, you have no control over imports/exports, there are only a few scenarios you can choose from, there are only two allies you can choose from, you cant go to war, etc...

the whole setup of the game is nice though, the graphics, and the parts of the government you can control. but what i really want to find is a (preferably computer) game that lets me control most if not every aspect of the government. it would be damn cool too if, unlike tropico, as the years progress so does the world around you, with technology getting better and all that jazz.

is there such a game?? i'm about to settle on getting Black & White 2, as the first game is pretty much the greatest computer game i've ever known, but i really, really want an indepth government sim.

    ???? :(

I'd have to say, any variation (perhaps one of the newest ones) of SimCity.

    How about SimEarth?

I would be prepared for Spore, basically you begin by controlling and growing a microorganism and over the course of the game advance to entire civilizations and even a galaxy. If you have the patience, check out the 1-hour video about it on google.

So totally kick ass game indeed. I've read about it at least a year ago, in an article, so they've made awesome progress~

damn, that game looks fricken awesome.
i will be sure to get that, for sure...

i've played simearth, years ago, so i should dig that one up.... i have sim city 4 somewhere, but from what i remember that one was much like tropico except you can build and destroy land, etc..

what about civilization IV? i saw this at walmart... i also saw III there for $40 cheaper, but the game didn't look nearly as interesting.

civ 4 is harder to play than civ 3. I always liked detailed civ games but civ 4 really does take a long time to play, there is so much under your control.

there's nation states. started by a guy who writes books that are a kind of over the top cynical satyre of monetary economics. most of the roll playing on there seems to be kids wanting to play wars, but you don't have to do that to just play your nation however you want to. not that the game logic is completely consistent to how the real world works. but it does let you do that.

    http://www.nationstates.net

i'm still looking for one myself that would let me roll play in a post petrolium world without having to be about conflict but about building environmentaly compatable infrastructure that would realisticly simulate how the real world works, and not a lot of silliness like wandering godzillaz and crap like that. which i'm not denying the potential fun of, just not what i'm looking for. second life would be cool, is cool, for vicariously living, well, a second, on line life, complete with most of what you'll find in real life, only a lot more mutable to you individual will. but it's at the individual level, based on capitolism, and for all practical purposes, requires broadband.

there are a number of simulation link farms you can find if you look arround, you might check out wiki-pedia for mucks and muds and those kinds of chat/sims too.
