Uh, how? If everyone liked the same music, it throws creativity right out the window. And you think mainstream stuff is bad now...Yeah...just think if everyone liked the same stuff
i always thought the first few small faces albums were quite good, Ogden's Nut Gone Flake being one of the absolute essiential British psych albums. every after the breaking-up of the original small faces i find to be pretty horrid. i'd say that the rod stewart and james blunt comparison is a valid one.... while stewart was damn cool in the 60s more than the majourity of "his" "work" is overly crappy, and does more than enough to cancel out his first few years. in my opinion. :H.
Blunt bashing?? I'm there! I respect others opinions, and if other people like him, then more power to them. I don't want to try to change anyone's opinion or bash their musical tastes, I just want to say that I cannot STAND this man's voice. When I first heard this song....I nearly stopped the car in the middle of the road. I was so confused, I seriously thought the song was a joke or something....I thought it was like a listener singing or something. But no. It was in fact a real song. Now I hear it everywhere, because for some unknown reason, people think he sounds good. But I just hold the hope that maybe this is just a fad, and people will realize in a few weeks that his singing voice sucks something awful.... Oh, and a tip to songwriters out there. When you want to write a song about a girl, try not starting it as "My life is brilliant". Way to be egotistical there, Blunty boy.
man he sounds just like some of the other male singers before him... no individuality i swear... my parents got his cd and my mom loved it fro a while, but it got really old in a week or so... good on the radio, but sucks in real life.
I'm not a fan of James Blunt, I find him to be extremely whiney, but not in the good Alanis/Ani/radiohead kinda way.
God, after hearing that song, I know my life certainly won't be brilliant. He's really horrible, and once again, he's a symbol of how America's mainstream teenage girls have no taste in music. He's like...Like...Barry Manilow and Celion Dion rolled up into one super-being. His music video was pretty egotistical, too. Of course he just HAD to strip for his first debut, too! What happened to Icelandic women being chased around the forest by giant stuffted teddy-bears?
Once again I will say, music is subjective. You might think it's bad, but it doesn't mean it's bad to others. I really dislike music snobs.
It's true, music is subjective. My theory is... if I like it, then it's good. Fuck whatever anybody else thinks. It would get extremely monotonous if everyone was into the same things. There'd be no progression or originality.
But I mean, geez, I'm not that huge of a snob. I wouldn't go up to someone and say, "You have horrible taste." I just come off as a snob here because it's a music board. I don't tell people what they should and shouldn't listen to. But I mean, when people are listening to Ashley Simpson and Linsday Lohan does that really seem so unreasonable to call...not good? calling this subjective seems like the easy way out, and while different music means different things to individuals I do feel that there is such a thing as bad music. Hence, it's not really snobby.
Not snobby? Could have fooled me. Obviously someone likes those Ashley Simpsons and Lindsay Lohans and think it's good music. They sell records, don't they? Do I like them? No. But I wouldn't call it bad music. Because good and bad is both subjective just like "like" and "dislike".
I dunno about that one... You can call it bad, disappointing or whatever as far as structure and theory and originality etc goes. The technical side of things, if you like. That sorta stuff is just constantly being recycled/remixed/covered and hasn't really moved away from what processed cheese usually sounds like. Sure there are a few exceptions in pop, but mainly they all follow the same path. But as far as opinion goes (like/dislike), sure saying whether it is good or bad is irrelevant as it is personal preference.
I like him. But then again, I've only heard one song. And I think he's pretty. That's all I had to contribute. Attack me if you must...because...since I have no case to defend myself, it would be like hitting a cripple. And you know...that's just cruel. lol
