Who enjoyed having to learn French in high school? Did you actually learn or did you only take it until you were allowed to drop? I regret not learning it fluently in high school now, I never really appreciated French then. Maybe because it was forced upon me? Now I find I wish I knew how to speak and am thinking of doing some classes to pick up on it again.
Well, your school system doesn't make french compulsary now does it? How did you enjoy Japanese by the way, seems like a tough language to pick up on
No harder than any other, I think the seperate alphabets sort of made it easier even. I liked it alright, though it's no longer my bag, man. Perhaps I should have taken German instead, I suppose that would be more fitting to me now, but still if they had offered Finnish it would have been even better. Or Welsh or Gaelic.. Preferably Scottish gaelic.
I didn't take French in high school, I took German I did take French immersion from k to gr 4 though, that was really fun. I miss it (don't regret it, but miss it). I do want to get my French back up to par, but since I didn't learn it based on rules and tenses (more organically) I'd probably have to go to a Francophone community to really regain my skills
I took French from grade 4 up to French 30 (grade 12 level), but that was in grade 11. I can only string together simple nonsense sentences now...
I did french immersion since grade 1 to grade 12. In grade 10 i switched into a less intense french program because i couldn't keep up with the grammer or reading and hated being yelled at for it. I'm very glad i did keep french though, because i loved the books and films we would watch in class, and the culture that i got exposed to. My french would never be up to par without me being stranded in a french community though, but hopefully that will happen eventually. I definitely don't regret taking french. But i did hate it for long periods of time, till i gave up on grammer and the teacher accepted that fact.
I took french to grade 12. I hated it... but we used to have alot of fun. I was in class with Clara Hughes the Olympic skater *toot toot* and we --- all my friends etc.used to fool around all the time... our teacher used to bring in frech records and we new all the popular frech artists at that time. We'd all dance to the music...lol. I feel sorry for the guys in our class! Does anyone remember "Sol"???? I too can string a few sentences together.
Yes I took french, I found it boring. Its maditory to take it now. But I did learn a few things... like Bonjour and Avoir. Thats about it. But it helps to have french.
Well in Ontario it was manditory to have atleast one french credit, so everyone had to take grade 9 french as a minimum. I took it one step further by taking (and failing) grade 10 french (never went to class) and then pleaded with the french department to let me into grade 11 french...which I also failed(again, never went to class). I was really desperate for the french because it was good way to get a shoe-in for the royal military college...didn't matter though, because I was a horrible student (who never went to class) and didn't have a shot in hell at that, or any other, university. Funny thing is that after highschool I spent upwards of a year living in a few french communities and ended up learning the language by default. I can converse quite fluently... but I'd still be fucked if I had to congigate a bunch of verbs on a piece of paper. C'est drole, non?
i had no choice but to take french in high school .....after all they were french schools ..i function at least 95 % in my daily life in french ..use english mostly when i go to the city ...but don't feel bad yovo ..i can't conjugate either ...lol..a plus tard mes amies..
I graduated through the French Immersion. Came in useful when I convinced a French chick, who didn't speak english, to come skinny dipping w/ us.
damned ..i should have learned to pretend not to speak french when those quebecer tourists come here .....i should practice my NO PARLAY FRANCAIS...think it would work? especially if i dropped my french accent??
yeah, well, I went to a french school and highschool where english and french were mandatory. 2 french classes per year and at least one english class. all other classes were in french. we started learning english in grade 3... Being able to speak french now is one of the reasons I have such a good job. we'll see how long the job lasts though.
I found that french in small town southern alberta was a total gong show, with english speaking teachers. I dont think after 3 years i knew any more french than i started out with.
hmm i go to french school! all my life been goin', i HATE it. I refuse to go to french college though lol
I hade to take it for nine years. I can hardly speak it at all and I regret not paying more attention
