'evening to all of you fine folks.
I was reading through some old Weird NJ magazines and wondered if any other PA/NJ people had heard of the mag?
It's a $5 magazine that comes out every few months...filled with articles and letters from readers about abandoned sites, ufo sightings, ghosts, occult activity, weird landmarks, and just all sorts of oddity from NJ. I take lots of trips to sites listed in the mag...and was just curious if anyone out there did the same...
If so, perhaps we can assemble our very own ragtag gang of weird nj hippies!

I've done all that Weird NJ crap. It isn't that great.
But I still recommend venturing through Shades of Death Road at dusk. [IMG]

Aww, I loved most of what I saw...but I do know that sometimes the sites can be let-downs, especially since many are now locked off/bulldozed/guarded/vandalized/etc.

Half the fun, for me, is the journey though...the adventure of tracking the damn places down and getting there, the hiking(for outdoors ones), the people you meet and things you get to see....I've got a lot of great stories from those outings

the REALLY wierd stuff is right down town just about anywhere in Jersey....

the old guys with long beards and their yards piled high with bric-a-brac, nick-knacks, hand-me-downs, and what-nots are NORMAL by comparison....

    so fucking sad this state....

When The Mag comes out, local police are alerted to watch any featured sites for trespassing. Know I guy who was poped just driving up a driveway of an abandoned industrial site. He hadn't even gotten out of the car.

Some of the articles bring back memories of good adventures as a kid.

Have you been to the Palisades Cliffs or the Great Falls ?

    Neither, unfortunately...
...and yeah, I've heard many a tale about people getting snagged for being too anxious about the newly featured sites. I always try to visit ones featured from a couple issues back...sometimes they're all beat up or vandalized due to idiots, but it's better than pigs getting on my case for walking through the woods.

I love the magazine, I do not get out exploring as much as I would like to, but it is a great read if you like history and just local legend. I am 2 minutes away from Shades of Death and I still say Clinton Road is much better!

hey everyone I have an autographed hardcopy book of weird new jersey from the authors themselves and have taken the liberty to read it for the very first time now I myself believe in spirits, entities, paranormal activity or what cannot be explained and actually take it somewhat seriously if you have ever been in or around hunterdon county lately be sure to refer to your weird new jersey magazines or the website itself and look for Mary's Tower and the ghost at the Union Hotel both of which are in my neighborhood

I'm still very interested in going out and about to different Weird NJ sites with anyone in the area. I've got transportation, every issue of the mag, a pretty good exploring toolkit, and all sorts of various gadgets to help things along.

a trip deffinately worth doing: the tunnels in the railroad arch bridge. i never found the paulinskil viaduct featured in the magazine, but there is a near identical bridge just south of the delaware water gap. you can even walk there from the truck stop off 80. once your on the bridge, you'll notice open manholes. climb down a long scary ladder and your in an enormous chamber. open the wood door and your inside the arches, over the river.

deffinately a primo place to smoke a doobie
