Now, old mans jazz was never my favourtie, but a couplde of months a returned to it and absolutely love it. I think that Stephane Grapelli is a genious. As a jazz fiddler myself, i realise how amazing he is, and see how difficult and complicated the stuff he plays is. It would be difficult to name a better viloinist, and the only criticism that i think can be made of him is the fact that he did not write enough of his own material. I loved his stuff with Django Reindheart. discuss
I know nothing about violins, so I can't comment on his technique. I love the stuff with Django, is it Hot Club of France or something? Stephane Grapelli actually plays on Pink Floyds "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", right at the end of the song, its almost inaudible though. Why ask a virtuoso to play on your record then turn his volume right down on the final mix? Bah! :-D
