by far one of the most amazing books i've ever read. we had to read it for english, and it saddened me that i was the only one who took anything from it. everyone else just complained about how boring it was and how they couldn't understand it. i finished the book in 3 class periods. i could have easily finished it in one day, but we weren't allowed to bring it home.

Food for thought...some relevant verses from Bhagavad-gita As It Is.

Regarding the relative abilities of individuals to understand spiritual subject matter:

    Chapter 2, Verse 29.
Some look at the soul as amazing, some describe him as amazing, and some hear of him as amazing, while others, even after hearing about him, cannot understand him at all.

Regarding the situation of a person who does understand this subject matter and is attracted to it:

    Chapter 6, Verse 44.
By virtue of the divine consciousness of his previous life, he automatically becomes attracted to the yogic principles--even without seeking them. Such an inquisitive transcendentalist, striving for yoga, stands always above the ritualistic principles of the scriptures.
