Greetings, I currently attend highschool and i'm in the process of completing a grade 12 soc/anthro summative project. For my summative project I am researching globalization, and for this stage of the project I needed to interview a few individuals (2 or 3) with strong views and knowlege on the matter, and also prepare questions for them to answer. Unfortunetly in my current location, globalization activists are hard to come by, so I have decided to perform this over the internet. If anyone here would be so kind to briefly answer these questions I have prepared about globalization and express their opinion and views in a paragraph (i'm only looking for a few sentences, nothing too extensive), it would be greatly appreciated! Name (don't need to include last name if you don't want): Location: What are your views on the current global trade situation? In your eyes, what do you dislike about globalization the most out of any other negative factors? What made your beliefs on globalization the way they are today? Did you have a breaking point to rebel against globalization? If so, what was it? How have you protested globalization? (methods, tactics, places?) Do you belong to any anti globalization related groups? If so, How did you get involved with such groups? Did you find the Seattle globalization riots were successful? Also why do you think this way? What’s your personal views on violent protests? Do you believe the media has been portraying the movement fairly as of recent occasions? Many thanks, -Steve
Name: Location: London, UK What are your views on the current global trade situation? It is good but we need more trade. In your eyes, what do you dislike about globalization the most out of any other negative factors? There's not enough of it in the products developing countries can benefit most from, e.g. textiles and agriculture. What made your beliefs on globalization the way they are today? Study, travel, work experience. Did you have a breaking point to rebel against globalization? If so, what was it? I support it. How have you protested globalization? (methods, tactics, places?) I support it. Do you belong to any anti globalization related groups? Nope. If so, How did you get involved with such groups? N/A Did you find the Seattle globalization riots were successful? Also why do you think this way? They succeeded in making anti-globalisation activists look like clueless self loathing extreme left idiots who have no idea how global trade works. What’s your personal views on violent protests? They reflect badly on the protesters. Do you believe the media has been portraying the movement fairly as of recent occasions? Too favorably.
Name ): Michael Location: UK What are your views on the current global trade situation? Destructive, the planet cannot support a growing economy, we lack resources. If we continue to grow and get the whole world on level, then we risk endangering the planet. Free trade is a good theory when it was initially proposed however Adam Smith could not prepurpose the situation with Third World nations, who joined the system (most) around the 1960's where the system was set up and at play, so therefore said nations found it difficult to really compete. And because of that situation, had to get into debt which increased with the siutation of oil prices, and American economy in the 1980's. In your eyes, what do you dislike about globalization the most out of any other negative factors? The lack of freedom and choice that world trade and globalization (wide definition) allows for the Third World. Because the Western world was set up in a international economy, it was presumed that the Third World would also benefit from such a system. Also I dislike the huge lack of regard for our eco-system, which because of 'poorer' nations economies and situation has to be damaged in order of survival. What made your beliefs on globalization the way they are today? Globalization, is in theory a good idea, because it enables the world to come together and attempt to resolve issues and problem that may arise in international politics, however from my experience, this hasn't worked, and quite the opposite has happened. I agree with institutes such as the United Nations, but i hate that globalization will destroy culture and our planet. Did you have a breaking point to rebel against globalization? If so, what was it? Not really one circumstance comes to mind. How have you protested globalization? (methods, tactics, places?)- A i believe politics, like everything in life is personal, i will live my life as i want the world to be. Therefore, I will only purchase priducts which i desperately need such as food, from a local, organic shop. If i need to purchase from the international spectrum, I will always purchase fair trade. I do not believe in turning up to pressure governments, because i believe power is in the people, and if we change ours lives, we can change the system. Do you belong to any anti globalization related groups? I am a member of Adbusters, which was originated by Kasse Lasn, trhe groups produce a magazine of ideas, they are involved with demo such as Buy Nothing Day and TV Turnoff week etc. The magazine usually has some great ideas and new thinking. If so, How did you get involved with such groups? I cannot remember how i came to be involved, I believe i was searching for eco-friendly vegetarian friendly shoes, which they produce. Did you find the Seattle globalization riots were successful? Also why do you think this way? I have no real knowledge of such protest as i live in the United Kingdom, and do not own a telivision and only access to news in in my uni lectures and BBC News and of course this website. What’s your personal views on violent protests? Totally against violent protest, I think its hypocritical to try and gain peace (i do know not all protest are to gain peace, but if i was involved it wouldbe for peace) through the method of violence. Do you believe the media has been portraying the movement fairly as of recent occasions? Again, not sure about the States media, and i belive i cannot comment as i do not live on that continent peace, love and sunflowers
Awesome, thanks everyone! Your help is greatly appreciated. Is anyone else willing to take it, to make three interviews? Once again, thanks for your help.
All I can tell you is to not trust any mainstream news source, and ignore people like cooloner who don't want you to think for yourself. try www.globalizethis.org there's some info there, as well as some links.
