I speant 3 hours in a barbers chair today having a beutician put like 2 or 3 applications of bleach and some dye on my hair in order to get it back to my natural color after having it black for a over a year and a half. The whole experiance wasn't horrific or anything, but sitting in a barber's chair for 3 hours isn't pleasant. Not to mention, the amonia from the bleaching stuff was aweful, haha. I don't think I will dye it black again though. But I thought it better to spend $60 getting my hair stripped, than shaving it and waiting for about a year for it to grow back...

Word to the wise: Don't dye your hair black! (or do, but at least learn from my story...)

    Don't go red either!

I dyed my hair a deep red a few years ago and my mother forced me to bleach it out after a few weeks. I had orange hair for a month before the hairdresser would touch my hair with a colour, and then I had a gross brassy copper color. It ruined my hair for over a year.

I dyed my hair black once...

It turned blue. Like Smurf blue.

It was a good look until my work told me not to come back until I got it fixed : -/

The black went on fine... I just got tired of it and didn't want to cut it.

I dyed my hair black back in October and I'm currently awaiting it to grow out to it's natural color. It looks good pretty much any color, but my natural color (light auburn) looks prettiest. Anyway, my roots are down to about...3 or 4 inches (out of 22 or 23, mind you, lol), but the rest of my hair has lightened up to a dark brown with a really reddish tint. I think it looks kinda cool...lol. I plan on just letting it grow out, my poor hair has been through enough hell.

And Pool Shark, that's really odd. I've dyed my hair red many many many times and it fades right out after a couple of weeks. I wish it would stay in longer...lol.

^^ that's because if you are not born with red hair, the red does not like you.

Three hours in the hair dresser's for $60 actually isn't that much if you look at what they were doing. I spent almost three hours getting my hair bobbed a few years ago, and it was about that same price.

That's not a reason not to dye your hair back. Just wait for it to grow out. You don't have to kill your hair with bleach.

I'm naturally a light blonde, and it was a very deep auburny red. I only had it for a few weeks (maybe three) and the color was fab but my mom didn't like it and forced me to sit while she bleached my hair. I had orange tipped ends and white roots for a month before the hairdressers would touch me, they wanted me to get some of the natural oils back into my hair. Needless to say I stay awy from anything with a red base in the color.

yeah, I'm a natural blonde as well and my blonde roots are about 1.5 inches long now - and the rest of my hair is "deep plum". it doesn't look all that great, but every place I've gotten a quote from says at least $100 to get me blonde again.

Hahaha, my name is not rayne. Not legally. Legally it is James (very plain... I wish I had a cool name like that) I thought about starting to go by rayne, but then decided I would name my first child (mama's approval pending) rayne. But I don't know, I really like the name, so I may keep it for myself since it is hot. ;) It is also difficult to get people to call you something else other than what they have called you all a long. Particularly if it it an "unconventional" name.

Yeah, I didn't mean it was a lot of money. And I thought about letting it grow out, but I hate having like black hair with blonde... like 2 tone or whatever. It didn't look good. And also, I could have gotten the black cut out, and still had like an inch or so of hair but that meant cutting the hair I have left virtually untouched by scissors for about 7 months.

    lol, welcome to the club.
I had a similar thing happen like your story and pool shark.
I had dyed my hair this plum color, and i thought that it looked pretty cool. My mom hated it, and took me to the hair dresser to get it stripped. I was there for 7 hours! (my hair was REALLY damaged from the last few years...still is now even though it's mostly gown out).
Afterward I had bright orange hair, which I also had to start at a new high school with...loverly.
It looked really goofy at first, but after it faded, it wasn't so bad. It was a nightmare to get rid of the red tones, though. Almost all dyes have red in them, and once it's there, it ain't never gunna leave until it grows out...blah.

I never had a problem with black either, but I do all my hair at home, even the color removal. It is red right now and I absolutely love it..... I only had a problem once in high school when I had it dyed dark dark purple and I wanted to go platinum and the hair dressed my mom took me too was scared she would ruin my hair so I waited half the day to look like Johnny Rotten and another half to be white blonde...... She was so scared to put anything strong on my hair.............. I told her it could handle it but she didnt beleive me

I dyed my hair red for three years, plus put black chunks in it twice... yeah, that wasn't fun to get bleached out. I mean, coulda been worse... I mostly felt bad for the hairdresser since she didn't have a mask or classes on, the bleach kept wafting up into her face.

Now I have orange hair, grapefruit coloured. I actually kinda like it, most people have had good things to say about it

I dyed my hair black cherry. It ended up blacker than black. My boyfriend had black hair and someone asked if we were brother and sister. Then when it grew out the top of my hair turned bright red even though my hair is brown. It wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't grown out in a perfect ring around my head. I finally cut it off myself, much to the shock of my mother when I came out of the bathroom with just below my earlobes hair.

Then there was the time I had long hair, tried to dye it dark brown with one dye kit and that wasn't enough. I had a big spot on the side of my head. From there I attempted to bleach it, but didn't have enough of that nasty powdered hair bleach. So more spots, then I dyed it smurf blue. At that time no one in my area had smurf blue hair. My parents took me to Deny's and everyone just stared at me. Then it turned nasty grayish green and I had to use two platinum blonde dye kits to strip it. I had platinum blonde hair for 1 day. After several gross old, toothless men told me how good I looked with blonde hair I dyed it light brown.

I am a lot more careful with hair dye now!

Yeah, the old man thing would deffinately make me want to dye it too... But one time I was in the hospital waiting room and some old lady (probably 90's or so...) in a wheelchair looked at me for a long time and then she said (my hair was recently dyed black at this time) "You have the prettiest hair!" And I said "Thank you, but it isn't natural" to which she replied "Well you should keep it that way, it is becoming to you". First time I ever heard becoming used that way... But for some reason, old ladies are usually really sweet and nice and old men can sometimes (not most of the time, just occasionally) be really wierd and creepy... Makes me glad I am not a girl... A friend I had who is a girl worked at McDonalds for a while and one creepy old guy pinched her on the butt.... Wierd... She quit that job...
