I am starting the dreading process and am using Dr Bronners Tea Tree Oil liquid soap, does the liquid work the same as the bar on the hair? And also, everybody says to wash your hair like 2 times a week, does this include just getting your hair wet in the shower or does this just mean not to use soap/shampoo on the hair? One more, after showering does towel drying hurt the hairs chance of dreading?
I wash mine once a week with babyshampoo, I washed my locks the first time when I had them like 2 or 3 weeks (I backcombed). Are you going natural? But washing is the best thing to do! It knots up better. I think towel drying is no problem.
everyone's hair is different. wash it ever how often you have to in order to keep it clean. dry it any way you want. Your hair will do whatever it wants to do regardless.
I think anything that keeps the hair from moving freely will hinder the knotting process.. washing helps, really rough towel drying too (not too rough though, you don't want to get bald ..bold? hm, anyway, yes)
It seems that Caucasians produce more oil in their hair than African Americans. (I draw this conclusion from talking to both my black and white friends and the African American women at a shop I go to and the incredibly long list of moisturizers aimed at people with black hair). So personally, I have to wash my hair about 2x/week. If you work out more and your head sweats, or if you don't produce a lot of oil, etc adjust accordingly. How I dry my hair: I have these things called Turbie Twists that are a special towel cut and sewn so you can dry your hair w/o having a huge towel on your head. After I wring my hair out, I put it in a Turbie Twist (I have 3). Then when that one is wet, I get a second (dry, clean) one. After that is wet I air dry it or lightly blow dry it. NEVER put wet dreads in a hat. Wet= mildew= smelly= no one wants to be around you
I just washed my hair with the Dr. Bronner BAR soap and I like it better than anything else I have tried. I just wet it, rub it on my hands, then rub it directly onto the dreads. It foams and lathers so much! Here it is, mohawk style
mine have only been backcombed for a few days but my hair is getting real greasy, feels gross as and prolly cause a brake out on my fore head or something, wont the grease defeat the locking process? but they say not to wash it in the first week? Or shouldi jsut go swim in the ocean?? help please my mans
Well it's your own choice.. you'd better go and swim in the ocean I think, the salt is good for dreading, but after you'll probably find out that it's all looser and you probably have a lot of loops and shrinking, that's what happened to mine after swimming in salt water. But I did it when they were already 2 or 3 months old.
GROSS!!! Wash your damn hair! I do highly recommend using something besides regular shampoo, but keep your nasty head clean! That sort of thing is why people think bad things about dreads.
Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree Oil BAR soap, is FANTASTIC. I've never used the liquid stuff, though, so I don't know if that would be better or not.
