    A little background:
    Last year {freshman in hs}, was the worst year of my life. I got to the high school with is "bigger and better" and was immediately depressed. I had always gotten staright A's or B's with little to no effort my entire life, and I hit high school and I don't know what happened. My gpa that year was a 1.8/1.9 and i felt like just dropping out, but i finished up the year. This year things started off well, made it to half the year with nearly no problems, did relatively well in all my classes and my gpa only went to a 2.0. I was prettysad that all that work went to almost nothing.

    Now I got into a huge fight with my dad over stupid shit, and we dont really talk anymore.
    My old best friend was treating me like shit so i ended that relationship and don't really have many friends anymore and can't get a gf for the life of me, which was never really a problem for me.
    And now whenever i think about school I'm just overwhelmed. It's come to me not doing big projects, not any homework, sleeping during class, and somedays just not getting up for school at all and/or refusing to go to school.

    I need some advice on what the hell to do with my life. My future doesn't seem too bright, although I am a very smart person. {FYI I'm 16 right now}

    Work things out. Depression is inside the head, escape it. Colleges mostly tend to look at your 11th and 12th grade grades... work hard on those, and show true improvement. Do not take high school too seriously on a social scale, you will not remember most of the people in your high school in 5 years anyhow.

    dont' stress too much on what you are going to do for the rest of your life. when i was your age, i was set on becoming a marine biologist. now, almost 5 years later, i'm in the process of getting an economics degree and guess what, i'm thinking of changing it or not changing and start taking some of the basic classes i need for another major and just go to another school once i'm done here and slowly work for another degree. because i'm thinking of getting a physical education degree or sports therapy or somethign on those lines. so don't stress to much on things like that, you're still young.

    and for grades, i agree with Rubin, colleges look for overall improvement and look at your 11th and 12th grade grades. my freshman year i did terrible, but 10th grade i improved and kept on improving until i graduated. the only class i struggled in was french. but i really wanted to learn it, so after completing 2 years of (we had mandatory 2 years of foriegn language), i decided to take a 3rd year. i had to beg to be let in to the class. i got a D in french 2, but for french 3 i got a C. just work hard, your efforts will show later on.

    everyone gets down, you just need to pick yourself up and keep on keeping on...

    Fuck that. Highschool is memorable - live it like it should be lived. It's not as if it takes a ton of work to get good grades in highschoool.

    Barbrady,

    You can gain the strength to heal and to protect yourself (to get good grades, etc). There is a reason for the change that you are experiencing; but you must listen to what you experience to learn about the reasons.

    Our expectations have a powerful influence on how we respond to other people; a powerful influence on how we feel in response to "the information we receive."

    Meditation is a powerful tool for healing and protecting the mind and body; a very powerful tool. Take 10 minutes a day to quiet your mind and observe your thoughts and feelings.

    Listen to your self, love your self.

    I do not recall saying anything about not getting good grades. Please re-read my post before comming to conclusions.
