I got the death toll figures for the battle of Kurukshethra.........

In the "Mahabharata" there was a world war known as the Battle of Kuruksetra that took place 5,000 years ago in India. 640 million soldiers were slain in a battle that lasted 18 days.

Half a hippie, if you can honestly tell me you have read even a single verse of the mahabharata, I might considering bothering to continue this conversation. If not I am just going to count you among the swelling class of people who like to talk without any idea of what they are speaking of.

Let's hope the people of Belorus are successful in getting rid of their present govt. It's to their credit that they're out there on the streets. But let's hope that violence can be avioded.

I agree, not much has changed in the sense that a small group of power-holders repress the majority.
However, in the context of this thread - Brahmin priests evidently burning a dissenter - - there are exceptions to every rule. In Poland, where the freedom movement in the old eastern bloc began, the church there played a leading role as a focus of resistance and dissent. So sometimes, the priests are on the side of the people. As they should be. And in Poland, they were there on the streets with the people.
I think though that improved freedom in Belorus can only be a matter of time. It's almost the last domino to fall in the decline of the old Soviet empire.

What you have read is not the mahabharata at all. It is bits and pieces of what someone said about the mahabharata. And like all bits and pieces knowledge, it leads to misunderstanding and is dangerous. If you wish to discuss the text or to criticize it, first study it and know what is actually said there.

Otherwise errors start circulating. For example, nowhere in the Ramayan is there any account of Sita swayamvara, yet the incident (which does appear in tulsi Ramayan) has become an inherent part of Ramayana and you will find plenty of people who ahvent read valmiki ramayan willing to swear by teh pramana that Sita swamayvara occured.

The very thought that war is "needed" or "ethical" in any way shape or form, is a delusion and an evil that helps create more war and conflict.

Peace is inevitable, give up war lords... earth is not forsaken!

All thoughts are delusional. And sometimes war cannot be helped. Even the best efforts of Krishna were not enough to prevent it.

I totally disagree. If you really think so, then what's the point in harping on about scriptures, teachings etc, as they are simply another hallucination? As indeed are you yourself, and the rest of us.

The scriptures are also an illusion, you and me are illusions, teachings are illusions. Even the scriptures accept that.

Some scriptures accept that. Myself, I don't. And quite honestly, it seems that in practical terms nobody really either does or can accept such a doctrine - it is un-livable in human terms. It is itself an illusion. A false attitude projected onto the real world.

Also as I've said before, it represents an anti-life attitude. Anti-life and anti-existence.

    You should read lamentations.
illusion : a misleading image presented to the vision (2) : something that deceives or misleads intellectually b (1) : perception of something objectively existing in such a way as to cause misinterpretation of its actual nature

The things you claim to be illusions are only illusions to those who do not have the wisdom to perceive them correctly. Even the preceding statement can be interpreted incorrectly by one who does not accept it's essential truth.

Actually it is the most life-affirming, joyous state of mind, because it is the end of all delusion and the experience of reality as reality itself, rather than it's pale reflections in the world. It is experience of existence as existence itself, not existence OF something, which is only a fleeting expression of existence.

It is very much livable and there are hundreds of examples around if you choose to see them.
